This zany comedy-mystery gets under way when wiseguy reporter Jimmie Daniels (Robert Paige) and tipsy sports editor Buzz Nelson (Charlie Ruggles) become joint owners of an oversized truck. Examining the contents, Jimmie and Buzz discover that the trunk contains a dead body. When mystery woman Margaret Nichols (Janice Logan) shows up to claim the trunk for herself, she is immediately suspected of murder. It turns out, however, that Margaret is an insurance investigator, tracking down a fortune in stolen loot. Forced to go on the lam from the cops, Jimmie and Margaret take refuge in the country home of daffy scientist Jarvis Woodruff (Lawrence Grossmith), where the mystery of the troublesome body is finally solved. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Set on a college campus, the story concerns the trials and tribulations of married student John (Joseph Allen) and his pregnant wife Kay (Cagney). In addition to their existing financial woes, Kay faces dismissal from her nightclub singing job as her waistline expands. The "secret" refers to the fact that Kay has been withholding the fact that John is about to become a father , lest he offer to quit school to support them both. After spending time working as dialogue director on a number of films, Carol Reed made his directorial debut as co-director of It Happened in Paris. Based upon a French play by Yves Mirande, Paris stars John Loder as Paul, the artistically-inclined son of an American millionaire. Serious about his work, he has moved to Paris, where he can find inspiration and study the masters. While there, he finds inspiration of a different sort in the form of the beautiful Jacqueline, played by Nancy Burne. Thinking that his wealth is a handicap, Paul lies and pretends that he is poor. Producer and director (Alexander Korda) followed up The Private Life of Henry VIII (one of the first internationally successful British films) with this historical comedy. After years in exile, the great lover Don Juan (Douglas Fairbanks) returns to Seville, the city of his salad days. However, Don Juan is now married and middle-aged, and his days as a spoiler of women seem to be behind him. When he learns that a young man in town (Barry McKay) has been posing as him and making time with the local ladies, Don decides to prove who the great lover truly is and attempts the seduction of Antonia (Merle Oberon), a beautiful dancer. However, Don's doctor informs him that girl-hunting will tax his fragile health, and his wife Dolores (Benita Hume) will no longer turn a blind eye to his infidelity. When the impostor is killed by a jealous husband, Don is relieved, as his "death" allows him to retire from his career as a rake with his reputation intact. But when the old itch returns, Don makes the sad discovery that if he can't convince women he's Don Juan, they simply aren't interested in him. The Private Life of Don Juan provided one of the few speaking roles for silent screen swashbuckler Douglas Fairbanks, and proved to be his last picture. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
