Drew Pinsky Movies

Dr. Drew Pinsky, M.D. -- often referred to in the media as simply Dr. Drew -- grew up as the son of a Pasadena, CA-area physician with plans to establish himself as a traditional internist. After medical school, however, Pinsky found his niche as one of the very few health and sex educator celebrities to score massive popularity among teenagers and young adults. As one of the hosts of the radio call-in series Loveline in the 1990s, Pinsky fielded questions, mostly from adolescents, on relationships, sexuality, and health, with a candor and explicitness that many found refreshing and eminently useful. The program netted such a massive fan base and viewership that it spawned not only an MTV spin-off in 1996 (with comedian Adam Carolla co-emceeing opposite Pinsky and adding a dose of levity to the proceedings), but its own website, a book, speaking tours, movie appearances by the co-hosts, and the like. In the mean time, Pinsky became certified in addiction medicine and began to lead the chemical dependency unit at Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena. In 2008, VH1 tapped Pinsky to host its reality series Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, with unvarnished glimpses of celebs such as Jeff Conaway, Jaimee Foxworth and Daniel Baldwin undergoing grueling drug rehabilitation on-camera. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

The fact that Brian is a dog does not disqualify him from being a contestant on the TV reality series The Bachelorette. Nor does it prevent Brian from falling in love with Brooke (voiced by Jessica Biel), the ambitious starlet who much choose from several bachelors to win the Big Prize. At the same time, Chris is bedeviled by a huge and ever-growing zit, which not only talks (with the voice of Kevin Richardson) but is also clearly intent upon world domination (or at least "Chris domination"). Nearly anyone who performs in public on a regular basis is familiar with the notion of the audience member who makes their opinions loudly and clearly known during the show, and like most comedians Jamie Kennedy has dealt with his fair share of hecklers over the course of his career. However, when Kennedy moved from stand-up comic to actor, he encountered a new breed of heckler -- the on-line film critic who posts angry rants on the internet, taking Kennedy to task for nearly every aspect of such critically drubbed movies as Son Of The Mask and Malibu's Most Wanted. Kennedy teamed up with director Michael Addis to make the documentary Heckler, which explores the increasingly combative relationship between artists and their audience. Heckler features interviews with a number of comics and musicians discussing their experiences with loud-mouthed spectators (including Bill Maher, David Cross, Louie Anderson, Rob Zombie, Joe Rogan and David Allen Grier), but Kennedy goes a step further, confronting a number of the writers who've bad-mouthed his work and questioning their role in the creative process. Kennedy and Addis also talk with filmmaker Uwe Boll, who went so far as to challenge his critics to a boxing match. Heckler received its world premiere at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Marking their first theatrical-release feature since 1995's It Takes Two, the Olsen twins bring their adventures back to the big screen with New York Minute. Billed as a sort of Ferris Bueller's Day Off for tweens, the plot involves the escapades of two enterprising Long Island girls, Roxy (Mary-Kate Olsen) and Jane (Ashley Olsen), as they decide to dupe their parents and spend a day on the island of Manhattan. It seems the high-minded Jane has a speech to give to a scholarship committee, while the punky Roxy wants to meet her favorite rock band. When Jane's planner gets swiped, however, the girls find themselves embroiled in a political scandal involving a high-powered senator (Andrea Martin), as their high school's truant officer (Eugene Levy) doggedly pursues them. ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide
