Home Improvement's Richard Karn lends his talents to this family-oriented animal-sports adventure from the producers of another animal-sports picture, Air Bud. MVP II: Most Vertical Primate picks up the story line of the first film in the series, MVP: Most Valuable Primate, but transfers its star monkey from the suburbs to the city, and switches his sport of choice from hockey to skateboarding. MVP II opens with the lovable Jack being ousted from his hockey team, the Seattle Simians, and having to hit the road after being falsely accused of league misconduct. Jack ends up in the city, where he's befriended by Ben (screen newcomer Scott Goodman), a homeless skateboarder, and Ollie (Karn), a skate shop owner. Jack proves to be as adept at mastering the half-pipe as he does at delivering a slap shot, and before long, he and Ben are crashing amateur skateboarder competitions all over the country. ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide

Six of the world's top skateboarders each map out a new and amazing stunt as they try to determine who is the best in this over-the-top skate video. Tony Hawk tries to ride a "Bar of Fire" suspended 20 feet above the ground with no safety net. Geoff Rowley attempts an outdoor roof-to-roof jump in the middle of the night with no lights. Mike Vallely sees if he can be towed by a motorcycle at speeds up to 35 miles per hour. Eric Koston attempts to ride down three flights of stairs with a switch-heel flip. Bob Burnquist's "Loop of Death" finds him struggling to skate a full pipe upside down and switchstance. And Danny Way tries to break the world's record for longest and highest jump at the same time. Who pulls it off and who reigns supreme? Sorry, you'll have to watch the video to find out! ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

The founding father of competitive skateboarding, Tony Hawk, and other professional skaters' performances at the 1999 Gravity Games are captured on this highlight video. The Gravity Games, an Olympic-style competition for extreme sports, were originally broadcast by NBC Sports as a response to the popularity of ESPN's X-Games. Held in Providence, Rhode Island, the 1999 competition had three skateboarding competitions: the vert competition, where skaters attempt to top each other and gain the highest point above the halfpipe rail; the halfpipe competition, judged much like gymnastics, where skaters perform difficult aerial tricks; and the downhill race, where skaters compete on a course much like a bobsled course, racing downhill against one another. Though the style of the video could be described as MTV-like with its editing cuts and modern rock music, the influence of the NBC Sports production style is undeniable in the overall presentation. The skater interviews are much like postgame questions presented to football players and the overall flow of the video moves like what one would expect from NBC's coverage of the traditional Olympics. The prime reason for watching the video remains the top-notch camera work and thrilling skateboard action! Several other competitions from the Gravity Games have also been released on video, including Gravity Games: Motocross and Gravity Games: Snowboarding. ~ Ed Atkinson, All Movie Guide
