Cristián de la Fuente Movies
A former Mexican television actor who went on to make a name for himself in U.S. film and television,
Cristián de la Fuente served in the Chilean Air Force Reserve before he starting acted professionally; his military background may not have pointed to a cinematic career early on, but his speedy ascent to fame hinted at great things to come for the actor. Born to a chemist father and homemaker mother in Santiago, Chile,
de la Fuente opted early on to study engineering while attending college in his native country. An only child, the licensed pilot was discovered by a talent scout and then made appearances in Chilean soap operas and variety shows before relocating to Mexico for a leading role in the popular television series Reyes y Rey (1998). Following a stateside television appearance in
Family Law, the handsome Latino would subsequently turn up in the
Sylvester Stallone racing drama
Driven (2001). Claiming to be equally happy whether acting on stage, screen, or film,
de la Fuente describes his acting method as loaning his body to the characters rather than portraying them, and he often becomes so entangled with his characters that he finds it difficult to wind down at the end of the day. Following his work with childhood idol
Stallone,
de la Fuente next took a role alongside another favorite from his youth, singer-turned-actor
Jon Bon Jovi. As a man of the cloth dedicated to ridding the world of blood-sucking immortals,
de la Fuente teamed with
Bon Jovi to battle the legions of the undead in the vast deserts of Mexico in
Vampires: Los Muertos (2002). Though that film ultimately proved to be a bit of a disappointment,
de la Fuente's subsequent role in director
John McTiernan's
Basic (2003) seemed to ensure a healthy career for the promising young actor. The actor co-starred in the short lived television series In Plain Sight in 2008, and competed in the 6th season of Dancing with the Stars the same year. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A reality television series crosses into deadly territory in this social satire. Patricio (Francisco Reyes) is a television executive who has created a new show, "Baja Tierra," in which a dozen people of different backgrounds and personalities are taken to a remote location high in the Andes, where they'll be kept in an underground holding area while cameras monitor their actions. As Patricio and host Rodrigo (Cristián de la Fuente) watch the proceedings, it becomes increasingly clear they're less interested in the welfare of the contestants than coming up with material that will draw an audience, especially since the show will be airing opposite a major soccer tournament. So far, Patricio is satisfied with the angry outbursts and illicit sexual encounters among his charges, which are attracting a large audience, but things take a disturbing turn when Miguel (Sebastián Layseca), one of the contestants, snaps and begins killing the other players, leaving Patricio to wonder if he should stop the violence or keep giving the viewers at home the violence they want. El Nominado was screened as part of the 2004 Los Angeles Latino Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Now Danielle finds herself in the same predicament as her cheating father: No matter what decision she makes vis-à-vis her love life, someone is going to be irreparably hurt--and she has absolutely no control over her own libido. In writer/director Gregory Corrado's second film, the supernatural thriller Murder Reincarnated (aka Minimal Knowledge, 2003), Cristián de la Fuente stars as Detective Matt Gallagher, an expert at identifying and hunting down serial killers. As the story opens, Matt's new partner (Henry Marshall) begins to mentor him, and they team up to investigate a series of killings of octogenarian women. The incidents suggest that the perpetrator harbors a deep and lingering hatred for his mother and is continually reenacting violence against the elderly victims who function as maternal surrogates. As the crimes begin to demonstrate eerie parallels to Matt's own life, Matt discovers that his girlfriend (Izabella Miko) is actually the reincarnation of his first love, who was run over by a truck. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

The disappearance of a military leader and the death of four of his men leads two investigators to wade through a morass of deceptions and half-truths in search of the facts in this thriller. Sgt. Nathan West (Samuel L. Jackson) is the leader of an elite team of U.S. Army Special Forces operatives known as the Army Rangers; West is known as a highly effective officer, but one with a short temper and aggressive attitude who is not well liked by his soldiers. During a seemingly routine training exercise in Panama, a hurricane sweeps in, and four of West's six men are dead, while West himself seems to have vanished. Eager to get the facts behind what happened, Col. Bill Styles (Tim Daly) assigns Capt. Julia Osborne (Connie Nielsen) to investigate. However, Osborne is having a hard time getting the two survivors to talk, so Styles brings in Tom Hardy (John Travolta), a former Army Ranger who served under West and became a first-class interrogator; Hardy later became a DEA agent, but left law enforcement after allegations of corruption. Hardy interviews Dunbar (Brian Van Holt), who claims that the four soldiers had been murdered, and West was killed in retaliation. Kendall (Giovanni Ribisi), the other survivor (whose father is a powerful officer) has a very different story of how the five men turned up dead, and it's up to Hardy and Osborne to determine who is telling the truth -- or if anyone is saying exactly what happened. Basic marked the first time John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson appeared in the same film together since their breakthrough roles in Pulp Fiction. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Sylvester Stallone wrote the screenplay for this action-packed drama directed by Renny Harlin and set in the dangerous, high-stakes world of CART auto racing. Jimmy Bly (Kip Pardue) is an up-and-coming young star of the open-wheel circuit, but he's slipping in the rankings as the championships loom. Under pressure from his promoter brother Demille (Robert Sean Leonard) and wheelchair-bound owner Carl Henry (Burt Reynolds), Jimmy is given a mentor -- Joe Tanto (Stallone), a once great CART competitor whose career and marriage to Cathy (Gina Gershon) were destroyed by a tragic accident. Joe must earn the rookie's trust, while attempting a career comeback, dealing with persistent reporter Lucretia Clan (Stacy Edwards), and facing Cathy, who's remarried to rival racing sensation Memo Moreno (Cristian de la Fuente). Meanwhile, Jimmy is stirring up his own romantic trouble by pursuing Sophia (Estella Warren), the girlfriend of top driver Beau Brandenburg (Til Schweiger). Long interested in creating a car racing drama, Stallone penned Driven after abandoning a film biography of real-life Formula One legend Ayrton Senna. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi
