In 1967, Elda Hartley, the First Lady of New Age Film, and Dr. Huston Smith the narrator, traveled to Tibet, a remote region in western China, to document the practices of one of the world's most mysterious religious sects: Tibetan lamas. Nearly 20% of the men in this region choose to become monks. It is a religion heavily repressed by the China's communist government. Despite this, the team discovered the lamas promote compassion and maintain their unique, religious traditions, including ceremonies where the lamas chant in chords. Since the 1967 visit, Gjuto monks have performed concerts demonstrating this mysterious, spiritual gift.
