In this loopy, pun-laden comedy, Max Block, a police detective who's as hard as nails but not as sharp, finds himself on the trail of a serial killer named Trojan. The cast includes Terence Goodman as Block, David Cale as the murderer, Frank Gorshin as the chief of police, and "Uncle Floyd" Vivino) as a pathologist. Rock music fans will want to keep an eye peeled for supporting performances from Ramones vocalist Joey Ramone and Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

In addition to being the title of a classic cult film directed by David Lynch, "Eraserhead" also happens to be the nickname of the character played by Paul Willson in this episode of Laverne and Shirley. Hoping to get even with her faithless boyfriend Carmine (Eddie Mekka), Shirley (Cindy Williams) accepts a blind date with the creepy "Eraserhead"--with truly surprising results. Linda Gillen, cast in a previous episode of the mentally challenged daughter of Shirley's landlady, is here seen in a radically different role. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Bobbie Gentry's hauntingly enigmatic 1967 hit single served as the inspiration of this story of unrequited teenage love. In 1953, Bobbie Lee Hartley (Glynnis O'Connor) is 15 years old and in love with 18-year-old Billy Joe McAllister (Robbie Benson). Unfortunately, Bobbie's father (Sandy McPeak) and mother (Joan Hotchkis) forbid her to date until she's 16, and until then, Billy Joe and Bobbie Lee are supposed to be content with occasional meetings after church on Sunday. The teenage lovers sometimes steal away for meetings on the Tallahatchie Bridge, but while the other local boys are able to slake their frustrations with the prostitutes imported for the occasional town dances, a booze-addled Billy Joe succumbs to another sort of temptation, and his guilt first destroys his relationship with Bobbie Lee, and then leads to his self-destruction. Ode to Billy Joe was produced and directed by Max Baer,Jr., best remembered as Jethro Bodine on The Beverly Hillbillies. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
