Dancer Jennifer Kries leads an intense workout based on the teachings of Joseph Pilates in Precision Toning. Now all the rage in exercise videos, Pilates can be a difficult subject to master. The movements lean heavily on self-discipline and involve posture, balance, and strength training. As The Method series often does, many different influences are combined into a singular total body workout. In this case, Kries uses yoga, ballet, and Pilates together. Her emphasis at all times is on form, which because of her own dancer's body, she can show off to maximum effect. Two 15-minute lessons are included in The Method: Precision Sculpting. The first uses light weights and works the upper body. Attention to detail is imperative during Kries' instruction. The movements work best with rigid structure. The second portion concentrates on the lower body while also targeting the abdomen. Her routine here is more traditional Pilates. During the workout, Kries dispenses with all the overdone music and settings, preferring to position herself on a simple balcony with a piano. Her instruction is also nicely placed with promptings coming at well-spaced intervals. For many seeking a strong home workout, The Method: Precision Sculpting has become a favorite. ~ Sarah Ing, Rovi
