Rap singer Eve was the eponymous star of this stylish sitcom, which went into production under the title The Opposite Sex. Eve was cast as Shelly, a Miami fashion designer who ran a thriving business in partnership with her gossipy best friends Janie (Natalie Desselle-Reid) and Rita (Ali Landry). Ever searching for a lasting romance with "Mister Right," Shelly was convinced that she had found both in the form of J.T. (Jason George), but her friends were not as easily won over. In this style-conscious cable TV series, prominent fashion writers and photographers whisked the viewer to a dizzying array of celebrity-studded events and major fashion shows. In addition, the experts provided makeovers for the on-camera talent; in one episode, journalist Robert Verdi selected a new and expensive wardrobe for CNBC anchorwoman Maria Bartiromo. If the program seemed to include everything all at once, it may have been because the producers deliberately adopted a hit-and-run approach, dwelling but briefly on each segment before rushing to the next one. Grad student Max (James Roday) accidentally clones an adult-sized version of Kate (Ali Landry), the beautiful reporter covering Professor Jonas' (Eugene Levy) genetics breakthrough. Max reluctantly agrees with his horny friend, Henry (Desmond Askew), to take advantage of the situation by secretly teaching the uninformed clone how to act like a guy, with a love of beer, sports, and random casual sex. Every guy on campus falls in love with the clone, but Max has a thing for the real deal, who eventually falls for him too. College soccer star David Morales (Mario Lopez) loses his scholarship and is compelled to take a job as a courier for an experimental medical laboratory operated by shady Dr. Darabont (John Saxon). The money is terrific and the border crossings from California into Mexico are easy for the charming Latino. But events turn desperate when David is forced to make a hasty delivery of a small cooler that contains something needed by the evil Franco (Richard Lynch), who is being kept alive in a Mexican hospice by the renegade physician Dr. Drake (Nancy O'Dell). If David fails, his mother (Dyana Ortelli) dies. But then the FBI gets wind of the delivery. Academy Award-winning actress Sally Field makes her debut as a director of a theatrical feature with this gently satiric comedy. Mona Hibbard (Minnie Driver) is a woman from a small town in Illinois who never enjoyed much of a rapport with her parents. Looking for approval and validation, Mona began entering local beauty pageants in her early teens; now in her early 20's, Mona is still grimly determined to one day walk away a winner as she finds herself in the early innings of the Miss American Miss competition, organized by Verna Chickle (Kathleen Turner). Somewhere along the way, Mona became a single mother; determined not to let this stand in the way of a pageant victory, Mona has persuaded her best friend Ruby (Joey Lauren Adams) to raise her daughter Vanessa (Hallie Kate Eisenberg) as her own. However, Vanessa seems to have sensed that something is wrong; she feels a much greater bond with Mona than her "mother," and (like nearly everyone else), she's noticed that she looks a lot more like Mona than Ruby.
