A sequel to the popular Quebecois comedy It's Your Turn, Laura, in this go-round, protagonist Laura (Ginette Reno), a rotund middle-aged woman, celebrates her birthday on an ocean cruise with her gossiping girlfriends. Once on board, the romantic intrigue begins. Laura is wooed by the ship's debonair captain, while her friend Lucille makes a valiant go for the extremely gay Oscar. Meanwhile, Laura's other friend Alice tries to shack up with almost everyone while avoiding bumptious butcher Albert. ~ Jonathan Crow, All Movie Guide

In this enigmatic melodrama, a father, his daughter, and her lover are all out at sea in a small sailboat for an pleasurable cruise. The daughter Alice is earnestly telling her father that he should not be so serious, and should enjoy life a little more. Before long, a serious storm has blown up out of nowhere, and Alice is swept overboard. Alice's lover impetuously dives overboard to try and find her. Later, the father is rescued by a cargo ship. In one of the two endings included in the story, the two lovers were also picked up by the cargo ship. Relieved, the old man decides to take a cruise on the ship rather than returning to his job. Five terminally ill patients inside the cancer ward of one hospital are the subject of this fictional accounting of different stances in front of the specter of imminent death. Whereas a middle-aged man and woman derive strength and comfort from each other, another young man is driven to suicide after saying a final farewell to his family and friends. The stories about each of the patients are introduced in the staff meetings at the hospital, in which each of the five cases is brought up in sequence. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
