A NASA spacecraft taking an experimental bioengineered life form, named V.I.P.E.R., to live on Mars doesn't even make it out of Earth's orbit before the thing escapes its pod and slays the crew. Luckily, NASA can cover up the disaster, because that creature is stuck in outer space. The bad news is, it wasn't the only V.I.P.E.R. made, and the other one has escaped its earthbound confines and is now haunting rural California, where it uses its tentacles to grab and devour anything that breathes. NASA sends its best off-the-books agent, Mike Conners (Patrick Muldoon), to find the creature and evaporate it. Despite closing a major deal for his firm thanks to his lovely wife submitting to seducing the sleazy client, Chris (Larry Poindexter) loses his job anyway and summarily drives off a bridge to his death. His beautiful young widow, Ann (Kari Wuhrer), is distraught to the point of psychosis and gets it into her now-twisted mind that the best revenge is to kill anyone who had anything to do with Chris losing his job -- that means the boss (Jay Richardson) and Chris' successor, the innocent, diabetic family woman Nicole (Barbara Crampton). Nicole struggles to keep her dysfunctional clan together, but the new housekeeper (guess who?) proves a seductive force on her husband, her college-aged son, and her slutty teenaged daughter. U.S. commandos storm a Middle East terrorist compound in order to kidnap the leader of the violent sect. But the clandestine operation backfires -- perhaps because of a double-cross by one of the American operatives -- and CIA agent Vince Shannon (Glenn Plummer) is captured and abandoned by his team. The terrorists brainwash Shannon and return him to Florida where he begins slaying his former team members one by one, until he finally reaches Lt. Scott (Matt McCoy), his former best friend. Renegade adventurer Hunter (John Beck) and his daughter Nadia (Julie St. Claire) discover, in a remote Siberian cave, inventor Nikola Tesla's deadliest device: A machine that can turn human brain waves into explosions, big and small. While returning the doomsday device to civilization by means of passenger plane, a band of terrorists led by Beck (Hannes Jaenicke) gets on the plane with plans to move the machine to a second plane and blow up the first one in mid-air, with the ten other passengers as well. But Hunter thwarts the scheme at a grave cost: His plane crashes in the mountains of British Columbia. The CIA dispatches Jason Ross (Treat Williams) to find the device, rescue the survivors, and stop the terrorists. Meanwhile, the crash survivors struggle with freezing temperatures, an avalanche, and a man-eating bear.

Modern-day pirates and a disaster at sea set the stage for this action drama. The sister ship of the Titanic has been refurbished and restored to service for a final cruise, and a number of wealthy celebrities and socialites are on board for the occasion, including film star Gloria (Erika Eleniak) and her bodyguard Aaron (Dylan Walsh). However, Josef (Ice-T), a daring and ruthless thief, sees a golden opportunity and invades the ship with a crew of henchman, intending to steal the many valuables on board. An explosion tears into the ship while Josef and his men are looting the cabins, and it falls to Aaron to capture Josef and his men before the ship meets its fate at the bottom of the ocean.
