This French romantic comedy-drama concerns Claude Langmann (Claude Berri, who is also the director) a middle-aged auctioneer who is in a loving marriage with his second wife of 15 years. Though he is deeply in love with his wife and has remained faithful to her, he finds himself unable to perform in bed. His wife says she is satisfied with Claude's love and tenderness, but he visits a sex specialist anyway. There he learns of Viagra, which is not yet approved in France, though it is available in Switzerland over the counter. Soon Claude is on his way to Geneva, and eager to prove his manhood, tries to bed Agnes, his very attractive and very available assistant. His daughter, who also comes along for the trip, interferes with her own problems. La Debandade is a lightly funny, touching looking at male sexuality during life's later years. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi

Circumstances force a filmmaker to reexamine his attitudes about his art and creative principles in this personal project from writer and director Dante Desarthe. Daniel Danite (Desarthe) has spent months putting together his next movie, an ambitious big-budget affair starring Juliette Binoche, but when his star and his financing disappear, the director finds himself starting from scratch. While Daniel has long believed that real filmmaking means shooting on thirty-five millimeter stock, a friend persuades him that ultra-low-budget digital video projects are the wave of the future, and with few resources available to him, Daniel swallows his pride and decides to give it a try. Putting together a makeshift crew and a cast willing to work for next to nothing, Daniel sets out to make a down-and-dirty DV project, but the new approach proves to be a challenge to his talents and expectations, and matters become even more difficult for Daniel when his wife announces she wants a divorce. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A man with a checkered past tries to mend his broken relationship with his son in this low-key drama from Belgium. Jacques (Jacky Lambert) is a man in his early forties who has a son but barely knows him; not long after Roland (Robin Weerts) was born, Jacques was sent to prison and he hasn't seen his boy since. Now that Jacques is a free man again, he longs to be a positive presence in Roland's life, and approaches his foster father (Jean-Pierre Weerts) about taking the boy on a trip to the South of France. As Roland's guardian ponders the wisdom of this, Jacques tries to reconnect with Anne (Olga Grumberg), his former girlfriend and the child's mother. However, Jacques learns that Anne was neglectful of Roland and doesn't seem to have any interest at all in the welfare of their son. Ca m'est egal si demain n'arrive pas (aka I Don't Care Of Tomorrow Never Comes) was screened in competition at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
