Betty Thomas turns her comic eye toward Dallas, the big-screen adaptation of the glitzy TV drama that follows oil tycoon J.R. Ewing and his ostentatious family. The film version has endured many bumps in its production history, with Bend It Like Beckham's Gurinder Chadha most recently attached to direct before Thomas was brought in with her more comedic take, thus adding to the ranks of talent that once circled the project, including Jennifer Lopez, Luke Wilson, Shirley MacLaine, and most notably, John Travolta. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide

As indicated by its title, this half-hour Fox sitcom was set in Chicago. Fresh out of college, series protagonist Sam (Bret Harrison) had matriculated to the position of "corporate drone," as the youngest executive at a major airline. Though hardworking and ambitious, Sam was still a frat boy at heart, the first of his college friends to land a "real" job. At the workplace, Sam was at the mercy of his clueless, overbearing boss, Russ (Philip Baker Hall), and his superior, Meryl (Mimi Rogers), who persisted in dropping "subtle" hints that she was sexually available to our hero, any time, any place; there was also Sam's assistant, Darcy (Joy Osmanski), an MIT graduate who felt that her job was beneath her and made no secret of the fact. On the domestic front, Sam lived with his slacker older brother, Sully (Eric Christian Olsen), and Sully's bartender girlfriend, Lizzy (Sarah Mason). He also carried a torch for the beauteous Piper (Amanda Loncar), who unfortunately was carrying on a long-distance romance with her never-seen boyfriend. Created by Pam Brady (South Park) and Will Gluck (Andy Richter Controls the Universe), The Loop premiered March 15, 2006. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Latino comic actor Luis Guzman starred in this eponymously titled sitcom as the owner of a donut shop and landlord of an apartment building, both located in Spanish Harlem. When dealing with his sharp-tongued, ethnically mixed tenants, co-workers, and loved ones, Luis demonstrated that he could give back as good as he got -- most of the time. The supporting cast included Diana-Maria Riva as Luis' ex-wife, Isabella, who hung around mostly to dispense insults and gobble down her former hubby's donuts; Jaclyn DeSantis as Luis' daughter, Marly, a level-headed type except when it came to her boyfriend, indolent "artist" Greg (Charlie Day); Charlie Day as Luis' assistant Richie, who carried a torch for Marly; and Malcolm Barrett as TK, a glib wheeler-dealer who spent most of his time trying to sell "valuable" merchandise which he'd recently fished out of the neighborhood dumpsters. Created and produced by Will Gluck, Luis made its FOX network bow on September 19, 2003. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Add Team America: World Police to Queue Add Team America: World Police to top of Queue
Directed by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Team America: World Police is a tongue-in-cheek but nonetheless politically biting send-up of the CGI-laden, big-budget action movies that have taken an almost exclusive hold over mainstream box offices, particularly during the summer months. Inspired by the Thunderbirds, a popular 1960s children's series, Team America: World Police uses similarly styled, but significantly more crass, marionette puppets in lieu of computer-generated images to breath life into an elite group of adventurers known as Team America. Their mission: to travel the world, root out its terrorists, and keep evil at bay. Aside from intentionally employing all of the hallmarks of standard action-adventure blockbuster formulas, from a prototypical hero to his communist arch-rival, the film also boasts the occasional musical number. The puppets were created by Norman Tempia along with Charles and Stephen Chiodo, the brothers behind the cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Team America: World Police is not based on Team America, a 1980s series from Marvel Comics, which followed a patriotic team of racecar drivers. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

The most tasteless third graders on television graduate to the big screen, as Trey Parker and Matt Stone expand their animated series with foul-mouthed humor that might breach the boundaries of basic cable. In the small Colorado town of South Park, good-natured Stan Marsh, slightly neurotic Kyle Broflovski, fat and petulant Eric Cartman, and perpetually doomed Kenny McCormick are psyched for the premiere of the first feature film from flatulent Canadian TV performers Terrance and Phillip, entitled "Asses of Fire." The movie is rated R, but that's not about to stop the boys from sneaking into the theater. However, when the boys' language gets bluer by the minute after seeing the film, their parents and school administrators decide that something must be done. Kyle's mother comes up with the ideal solution: blame Canada. Terrance and Phillip end up in jail for corrupting America's youth, while the Canadian Air Force retaliates with an air strike targeting the Baldwin brothers. The boys soon organize a children's underground resistance force to free Terrance and Phillip before they can be executed; meanwhile, in a sensitive subplot exploring relationship issues, we're permitted an inside look at the domestic problems of Satan and his lover, Saddam Hussein. As on the TV show, Parker and Stone perform the voices of most of the characters, and they also wrote several songs for the film; George Clooney, Minnie Driver, Eric Idle, Dave Foley, and Mike Judge contribute voices. Not to spoil the plot, but rumor has it that Kenny dies. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
