Grammy-nominated reggae artist Kymani Marley and Jamaican dancehall star Spragga Benz star in director Cess Silvera's tale of two Kingston gangsters looking to make a name for themselves on the mean streets of Kingston. Homegrown gangers Biggs (Marley) and Wayne (Benz) have paid their dues in Kingston, and now they've set their sights on a better life in Miami. Biggs and Wayne aren't willing to kiss their ambitions goodbye quite so easily though, and thanks to a little compliance from the Kingston politicians, the pair soon begin extorting money from the local businesses. The heavies in the Kingston underworld are beginning to resent the pair's wildfire success though, and as the pressure mounts to end the rising tide of crime a local politician pays the ultimate price to arrange for the visas that will get Biggs and Wayne back to Florida. Director John Duigan brings Jean Rhys' difficult 1966 best-selling novel to the screen. It's a story meant to be a prequel to Charlotte Bronte's novel Jane Eyre, surmising what drove the first Mrs. Rochester mad in that novel. In Jamaica in the 1840s, slavery has been recently outlawed. Plantation owner Annette Cosway (Rachel Ward) has become so poor that she marries a rich, boorish Englishman whom she does not love. Her husband, Paul Mason (Michael York), is a sexist, racist tyrant who mistreats his servants and his wife. Paul flees to England after the servants and their countrymen revolt and burn down the mansion, killing Annette's young son. Annette goes insane and is consigned to the care of a servant. Her daughter Antoinette (Karina Lombard) is placed in a convent until she is old enough to inherit the property, but the inheritance depends on her marrying a proper husband. By previous arrangement, she marries Edward Rochester (Nathaniel Parker). At first they are lustily in love, but Rochester proves to be as elitist who is as disrespectful as Mason. Rochester has title to all of Antoinette's property, but he despises Jamaica and wants to return to England. He also fears the black magic of Christophene (Claudia Robinson), who mixes up a voodoo potion which ends up driving the couple farther apart. ~ Michael Betzold, All Movie Guide

British rock musician and video director Lol Creme directed this whimsical tale featuring madmen, talking trees and big-breasted women. Aloysius (Paul Campbell) is a sweet-natured idiot who spends most of his time in a small Jamaican town talking to trees and animals. In fact, his best friend is a giant limbed tree, sleeping under its branches at night. Problems begin with the arrival of a sex-crazed German tourist named Inga (Julie T. Wallace), who enlists Aloysius as a guide and erotic slave. So insatiable is this busty German that Aloysius is compelled to complain, "Dee pum pum is worse tyranny than colonialism." Aloysius's plight intensifies when Inga's father cuts off her supply of money. Desperate for cash, she persuades Aloysius and her other paramour, the aptly named Service Johnson (Carl Bradshaw), to break into the home of wealthy Busha (Reggie Carter) to steal his money. Aloysius agrees, convinced that Inga is the love of his life. But the robbery goes bad and, although Aloysius saves the life of Busha, he faces hard time at the local workhouse. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide
