An affluent surgeon from New Orleans finds his attempt to piece his life back together after Hurricane Katrina unexpectedly unraveling with the appearance of an old flame in this drama from director Michael Almereyda. Dr. Henry Jekyll (Christopher Eccleston) is a socialite and surgeon whose once-happy home was shaken to the core by his affair with the young and beautiful Hyde (Elisabeth Moss). Now, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Jekyll has returned to town to work for an anarchist relief organization dedicated to rebuilding the city. As the tireless aid workers put all of their energy into making New Orleans livable again, Dr. Jekyll makes a concerted effort to get his own life back together by remarrying his ex-wife. Jed Weintrob directed this look at how Internet sex sites bring people together, while simultaneously keeping them apart. John Roth (Josh Hamilton) and his friend Moe Curley (Harrold Perrineau) spend a remarkable amount of time at Intercon-X, a pornographic website. All of the characters spend a great deal of time in cyberspace. Eventually, John shares a sexual act online with Jordan (Vanessa Ferlito), another regular at Intercon-X. Eventually Jordan and Moe engage in an actual affair, which finally forces all of the characters to deal with each other in the real world, and not just in cyberspace. Three women try to set aside their personal and romantic difficulties in order to help out a fourth -- though it isn't easy -- in the dramatic comedy Chocolate for Breakfast. Amy (Marin Hinkle) is a stockbroker whose career is on the upswing when one night, very much out of character, she goes a bit wild and has a one-night-stand. To her initial dismay, Amy soon discovers she's pregnant, but she decides to keep the baby, quit her job when it arrives, and raise it on her own. Amy shares an apartment with three friends who pitch in to help her when they're not dealing with their own problems. Jessica (Brooke Hailey) is a paralegal trying to get into law school, Nina (Callie Thorne) is juggling medical school and her first relationship that's actually working out, and K.C. (Isabel Gilles) is an artist whose most notable work currently adorns the wall of a bar's restroom. Chocolate for Breakfast was the debut feature for director Emily Baer; Baer also co-wrote the screenplay with Brooke Hailey, who plays Jessica. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

In this crime drama, two recently released prisoners, Frank and Bobby, get into more trouble when Bobby begins plotting one last bank heist and Frank starts plotting revenge against Walt, the thug who harmed his family. Deciding to team up, Frank and Bobby conspire to rob Walt's garage. Unfortunately something goes wrong and Walt gets iced. This stylish combination of expressionistic horror and deadpan black comedy centers on the activities of a beautiful female vampire on the streets of New York City. Playing fast and loose with the Dracula legend, the film examines the legendary count's children, particularly the alluring and mysterious Nadja (Elina Lowensohn). At the film's beginning, Nadja is celebrating her father's demise and hoping to begin a new life. She hopes that this life will include Lucy (Galaxy Craze), a spunky young woman that she seduces after an encounter in a New York bar. Unfortunately, Lucy is already married, to the nephew of eccentric vampire hunter Van Helsing (Peter Fonda), who disposed of Nadja's father and has now set his sights on capturing the daughter. Matters are further complicated when Nadja's brother Edgar (Jared Harris), a vampire who wishes to give up his blood-sucking nature, also becomes involved. Gorgeously shot by cinematographer Jim Denault in a mixture of 35mm black-and-white and low-budget Pixelvision video, the film resembles a combination of the surrealist visions of co-producer David Lynch and the quirky humor and stylized sensibility of Hal Hartley. The convoluted narrative sometimes fails to gel, and the self-conscious, arty approach will not appeal to audiences looking for conventional thrills, but those with a taste for the unusual may find the film an appealing contemporary spin on a familiar legend. ~ Judd Blaise, All Movie Guide

The debut film from writer-director Whit Stillman etches a sophisticated comic portrait of New York debutante society at the twilight of the 1980s. Set during the Christmas season, the film is told from the vantage point of Tom Townsend (Edward Clements), a self-professed proletarian radical who stumbles into the social sphere of a group of well-off Upper East Side twentysomethings calling themselves the SFRP (or Sally Fowler Rat Pack, named in honor of a frequent party hostess). The group includes Nick (Christopher Eigeman), an acidic misanthrope; sweet-natured Jane Austen acolyte Audrey (Carolyn Farina); Charlie (Taylor Nichols), a tongue-tied bumbler secretly in love with Audrey; and femme fatale Cynthia (Isabel Gillies). Quickly, Tom, who comes from much more humble beginnings, finds himself caught in the middle of the group. Audrey even develops a crush on him, but Tom is still reeling from a broken relationship with renowned man-eater Serena (Elizabeth Thompson), a peripheral member of the SFRP. It all leads to a romantic climax at the Southampton vacation home of Nick's womanizing arch-enemy Rick von Sloneker (Will Kempe). ~ Jason Ankeny, All Movie Guide
