A high school senior and his friends invent a time machine so that future generations of students won't have to endure some of the more preventable adolescent pains, only to find that they have inadvertently opened a black hole in the process. Virgil (Jason Dolley) and his pals are determined to make life a little easier for the less popular students in their high school, and in order to make that happen they create a time machine. But strange things can happen when you go messing with the laws of physics, and when Virgil and friends open a black hole they find that turning back the clock can have messy repercussions. Sci-fi and comedy elements combine in a Disney Channel Original Movie that's fun for the entire family. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

The first season finale of Weeds is chock full of incident. Heylia (Tonye Patano) finds out that Conrad (Romany Malco) was responsible for beating up the campus security guard and bars him from speaking to Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker). She's also not very receptive to his plans to start growing their own hydroponic plants. Vaneeta (Indigo) goes into labor. Andy (Justin Kirk) finds out that the U.S. military expects him to report for duty...in Iraq, and doesn't get much sympathy from those around him. Lupita (Renee Victor) tells him, "Bye!" Doug (Kevin Nealon) offers to "put one of those little yellow ribbon stickers on my car. For you." Desperate times call for desperate measures. Peter (Martin Donovan) stops by the "fakery," and invites Nancy over to his house while his son is away. She tells him, "My life's not gonna get any less complicated any time soon," but he doesn't seem to want to give up. Isabelle (Allie Grant) and her little friend Peggy (Olivia Sui) experiment with lesbianism, while Celia (Elizabeth Perkins), feeling much better, thanks, is reverting back to her old, hypercritical ways. "When you think you're gonna die," Isabelle tells her, "you're a much better person." A stoned Silas (Hunter Parrish) is brought home by the cops and doesn't want to hear his mother's criticism; he's all too aware of how she maintains the family's comfortable lifestyle. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

The Wonder Years met Malcolm in the Middle in this Fox network sitcom set in the early '60s. Grant Rosenmeyer starred as 11-year-old Oliver Beene, a budding intellectual and inveterate cut-up mired in a world of eccentric relatives, spiteful teachers, and mercurial females. Oliver's dad, Jerry (Grant Shaud), was a dentist who liked to spend his off-hours either drilling teeth for fun or talking about it; his mom, Charlotte (Wendy Makkena), was a neat-freak who wished she was Jackie Kennedy; and his brother, Ted (Andrew Lawrence), was a self-involved sports nut, his ear perennially glued to his transistor radio. Things weren't much better at school, where Oliver was bedeviled by venom-spouting teacher Mrs. Heller (Annie Korzen), ardently pursued by moonstruck classmate Joyce (Daveigh Chase), and studiously ignored by red-haired beauty Bonnie (Amy Castle). On the other hand, Oliver enjoyed the company of his best friends, chubby Neal (Ben Bookbinder) and closeted-homosexual Michael (Taylor Emerson). Like The Wonder Years, this series was narrated from the vantage point of the future by the leading character. Oliver Beene debuted March 9, 2003. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

One of two new series for the 2002-2003 season based upon the premise of "You CAN go home again" (the other was ABC's That Was Then), Do Over starred Penn Badgley as Joel Larsen, an unhappy, unmarried 34-year-old salesman. Thanks to a freak accident, Joel was thrust back to the year 1981, when he was a 14-year-old high school freshman. A seasoned adult trapped in the body of an ingenuous teenager (with the requisite raging hormones), Joel was given the opportunity to make the "right" choices to straighten out his later life -- and to save his extremely dysfunctional family from all manner of seemingly preordained disasters. Do Over was telecast on Thursday evenings beginning September 19, 2002. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Suburbanites from outer space arrive on Earth to clean up the inner city -- strictly for fun -- in this sci-fi-tinged comedy. With the death of his mother, Joseph (Christopher M. Brown) is trying to put his life back on track after several years as a street punk. He decides to turn the family home into a boarding house, but the house happens to be in one of the worst neighborhoods in Los Angeles and Joseph doesn't get many customers. One day Charlie (George Wendt) and Rhonda (Shanna Reed), a cheerful middle-class couple, arrive with their teenage daughter Daphne (Anastasia Sakelaris) looking for a place to stay; Joseph thinks something odd is going on, but given his lack of customers (and Daphne's attractive appearance), he keeps his thoughts to himself. It turns out that something strange is happening, however; Charlie and Rhonda are actually aliens from another planet who have come to Earth on a vacation, and their favorite pastime is hunting and killing the sort of low-life criminals who run rampant in Joseph's neighborhood. Alien Avengers was also released under the title Welcome to Planet Earth. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
