This British comedy details what happens to five sailors and a passenger as they spend fifteen hours on shore leave in London while waiting for their cargo ship to unload. The passenger, a lonely widowed business man named George (Bernard Lee), finds his way to a West End bar, where he meets Wanda (Erika Remberg), a seductive blackmailer, working in cahoots with photographer Paul (Derek Bond). Meanwhile, Lee (John Bonney), an Australian sailor, meets and falls in love with wacky beatnik Penny (Heather Sears). Arthur (David Lodge) tells the sailors that he is going to visit his mother when, in reality, he is heading off to seek a prostitute. Rough-and-tumble Harry (Inigo Jackson) finds himself robbed and left penniless after visiting a Soho saloon. Shy and naive Jamie (Colin Campbell) falls in love with the homeless Jean (Francesca Annis). An undistinguished martial arts kickeroo with a glowing sword thrown in for mystic appeal, this actioner stars Tadashi Yamashita as Tadashi, a Japanese cop who is caught up in a misguided war against crime. His nemesis is Dirk (Mel Novak), equally trained in the martial arts and commander of a paramilitary unit in an illegal war against top criminals. Tadashi is partially sidetracked when he helps a hooker retrieve the glowing sword that Dirk has nabbed for his own. A bit of karate in drag follows as the undercover Tadashi kicks up his heels, and that may be the best scene in this film. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

Micki (Ann Reinking) is the wife of Rob (Dudley Moore), an airheaded TV talk show host. Maude (Amy Irving) is an attractive musician who is unaware of Micki's existence, and with whom Rob falls in love. Rob is a guy who can't say no, thus when Maude announces that she's pregnant, Rob obligingly marries her. Trouble is, he's still married to Micki who is also pregnant. To make matters worse, Rob's wives are due to give birth on the same day, forcing the double dealer to work doubly hard to keep both demanding women happy. Matters reach their comical climax when the Big Day arrives and Rob is expected to attend both births at the same time. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Sean Penn graduated to full stardom with the 1984 drama Racing with the Moon, even though the film itself hardly set new box office records. Set in the early years of World War II, the film stars Penn as a small-town teen-aged hotshot, six weeks away from being shipped out to fight overseas. In the meantime, Penn begins to date Elizabeth McGovern, whom he assumes is from a wealthy family. Penn's pal Nicolas Cage, who's gotten his girlfriend Suzanne Adkinson pregnant, imposes upon Penn to hit up McGovern for the abortion money. That's when Penn discovers that the girl barely has a penny to her name. Convinced that Penn cared for her only when he thought she was rich, McGovern walks out on him, but later teams up with Penn to help the unfortunate Adkinson. The plot is pure James Dean, a fact not lost on fans who regarded Sean Penn as the second coming of Dean. A very slight piece, Racing With the Moon is buoyed by the engaging performances of the stars, and by director Richard Benjamin's meticulous attention to period detail-especially in those peerless bowling-alley and skating-rink sequences. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

While assisting Deputy DA Carol Baldwin (Kathleen Lloyd) with her prosecution of a very wealthy and powerful man, Magnum is hired by an elderly woman (Celeste Holm) to locate the birth certificate for the child she'd given up for adoption nearly three decades earlier. What Magnum finds is evidence that Carol Baldwin herself is that child--and that there is a terrible secret regarding her birth parents. Acting upon the counselor's advice, Maris finally makes up her mind -- and serves Niles with divorce papers. Stuck in the middle of this crisis are Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) and Martin (John Mahoney), to whom a disconsolate Niles turns for help, comfort -- and even more advice. ~ Rovi
