Oded Fehr Movies
The seeming embodiment of the old cliché "tall, dark, and handsome," Israeli-born actor Oded Fehr has the worldly handsome looks that perfectly suited him for his breakthrough role of mysterious desert warrior Ardeth Bay in the 1999 blockbuster The Mummy.Born to European parents in Tel Aviv in November of 1970, Fehr served a three-year tenure in the Israeli Navy before relocating to Frankfurt, Germany, to work in business with his father. Enrolling in a few minor acting classes as a fluke, Fehr would take a role in playwright David Mamet's Sexual Perversity in Chicago before later deciding to cement his thespian tendencies with a three-year stay at the Bristol Old Vic in London. Not surprisingly taking on such stage roles as Don Juan in Don Juan Comes Back From War, Fehr was a familiar face to U.K. television audiences with his roles in The Knock and Killer Net in 1998 before his breakthrough in Hollywood. Also turning up as a male gigolo in SNL alumni Rob Schneider's Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo the following year, Fehr would later appear in American television with Cleopatra (1999) and Arabian Nights following his success in The Mummy. Not surprisingly returning to his role in that film's 2001 sequel, The Mummy Returns, the multi-lingual actor would become a permanent fixture on the small screen when he joined the cast of U.C. Undercover in 2001. The epic saga of the Queen of Egypt gets yet another retelling in Cleopatra, a four-hour, two-part spectacular produced for television. Leonor Varela plays Cleopatra, the Egyptian monarch who uses her wisdom, charm, ruthlessness, and seductive powers to work her way into the heart (and bed) of Roman leader Julius Caesar (Timothy Dalton). But Cleopatra shifts her romantic alliances to Marc Anthony (Billy Zane) just in time for Caesar's death and Anthony's rise to the throne. When Rome goes to war, however, Cleopatra realizes that she can only remain in power for so long, eventually making a late date with an asp when things get especially grim. This is at least the 12th film based on Cleopatra's life (the best-known being the infamously expensive 1962 version starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton). Antonio Tibaldi directed this drama set off the Georgia coast on remote Dolphin Island, where young Italian Stefano Mauri (Stefano Dionisi) mysteriously arrives out of the blue one day, promptly finding work as a handyman at a rundown motel, although he never explains just who he is, where he came from, or why he landed on Dolphin Island. The motel's laundress is the attractive Claudine Van Doozen (Christina Applegate). Subject to major mood swings and occasional erratic behavior, Claudine moonlights as a dance hostess in the evenings. Amid the coastal splendor, Stefano and Claudine fall into a riddle of a relationship, explored with enigmatic twists and turns. The screenplay by director Tibaldi and Heidi Hall is based on Hall's short story, The Magnificent Rescue. Shown at the 1998 L.A. Independent Film Festival. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide

The mysterious world of the Internet served as the stomping grounds for the four-part British thriller Killer Net. Tam Williams headed the cast as psychology student Scott Miller, who made the acquaintance of a beautiful but slightly unbalanced young lady while surfing the net. The girl enticed Scott into participating in a sinister CD-ROM game called "Killer Net," in which the players pretend to be serial murderers. Unfortunately, the girl is killed for real, and unlucky Scott is framed for the murder by the actual culprit. Adapted by former actress Lynda La Plante from her own novel, this series caused some controversy when it originally aired because of its implication that the British police were utterly computer ignorant. Co-produced by Channel Four and Australia's Nine Network, Killer Net premiered in the United Kingdom on May 5, 1998. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
