With a family tree that includes such notable relatives as Goldie Hawn, Kate Hudson, and Bill Hudson, it wouldn't take a psychic to predict that Oliver Hudson would eventually pursue a career in show business. Of course, that's not to say that the aspiring actor simply coasted his way to success based strictly on his surname, as young Hudson showed great promise on the hockey rink before working his way up the ladder as a production assistant on such features as Father's Day and Conspiracy Theory. Sure, the films he found work on may have been of higher profile than the average wannabe actor/filmmaker, but Hudson gamely paid his dues on the lower rungs of the Hollywood echelon nonetheless. Though in his early years Hudson and his friends could frequently be spotted shooting amateur short films and hamming it up in front of the camera, a passion for hockey led the athletic teen to lace up his skates and take to the ice before opting to finish high school in Los Angeles and study film at the University of Colorado. A return to the west coast following his education found Hudson working as a production assistant by day and planning an ambitious short film by night, and shortly after, he was spotted in acting classes by a talent scout. Hudson began hitting the audition circuit soon after. With good looks and talent to boot, it didn't take long for Hudson to land roles in such features as The Out-of-Towners and The Smokers. A series of appearances on the WB's teen hit Dawson's Creek no doubt helping to raise his profile among young television viewers, Hudson was soon stepping into the lead for his own short-lived series, entitled My Guide to Becoming a Rock Star. If that series didn't find him breaking out as many had expected, a turn as the free-spirited, unlikely heir to a lucrative ski resort in the 2004 WB series The Mountain may just be the role needed to kick Hudson's career into overdrive. As it turned out, however, it was his role on CBS' sitcom The Rules of Engagement=that earned Hudson widespread recognition as the terribly gullible, yet well-intentioned Adam Rhodes. The CBS sitcom Rules of Engagement chronicled the rituals of dating, marriage and commitment, as seen through the eyes of two couples and their single friend. Former Dawson's Creek costars Adam Hudson and Biance Kajlich were respectively cast as Adam and Jennifer, who became engaged in the very first episode, much to the dismay of Adam's acerbic bachelor pal Russell, played in typical David Spade fashion by David Spade. Adam and Jennifer were subsequently befriended by Jeff (Patrick Warburton) and Audrey (Megyn Price), who after 12 years of marriage regarded themselves as experts on the subject of matrimonial harmony (though they seldom practiced what they preached!) Coproduced by comic actor Adam Sandler, Rules of Engagement premiered February 5, 2007, but despite its strong opening (its lead-in was the popular Two and a Half Men, the series was placed on hiatus as of March 19. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A few innocent women experience a nightmare before Christmas in this bloody thriller. Billy Lenz, a severely maladjusted child, finally snaps under years of brutal treatment by his family, killing and eating them in an explosion of violence on Christmas Eve. For years, the Lenz house stands vacant, but in time it's purchased and renovated as the new home for a college sorority. A few days before Christmas, a handful of sorority sisters -- Dana (Lacey Chabert), Melissa (Michelle Trachtenberg), Kelli (Katie Cassidy), and Heather (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) -- are enjoying a quiet evening with their house mother, Barbara MacHenry (Andrea Martin), exchanging gifts and swapping stories before heading home for holiday break. While Barbara remembers the story of Billy's crimes, the atmosphere is peaceful until the young women receive the first in a series of disturbing telephone calls. Before long, they learn that Billy has escaped after years in a mental institution, and has come back to the house where he grew up to once again spill blood for the Christmas season. Three rich, pretty people befriend their poor, mousy classmate and live to regret it in this teen-centric thriller. Alicia (Mia Kirshner), Hadley (Meredith Monroe), Julianne (Rachel True), and Sydney (Dominique Swain) are four students enrolled in the same sociology class at Colby University, an exclusive and respected college in the Carolinas. Alicia is a local girl born into modest circumstances who struggles to make ends meet and rarely gets a second look from the male students on campus, while Hadley, Julianne, and Sydney are close friends who all come from wealthy families and seem more concerned with partying than their studies. Alicia and Hadley are paired up to work on their semester project for the class, which is to be centered around the theme "Lead, Follow, or Get Out of the Way." As part of the project, Hadley decides to befriend Alicia, and brings her into her social circle. At first, Alicia seems more than grateful for the attention of her new friends, and blooms under the influence of Hadley, Julianne, and Sydney. But it isn't long before Alicia's personality begins to shift; she develops a powerful appetite for drugs and alcohol, and soon begins taking advantage of her new friendships. Things come to a head when Alicia seduces Sydney's boyfriend, Josh (Oliver Hudson), and soon Alicia ends up in the hospital after OD'ing on drugs. When Frank Sinatra sang "If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere, it's up to you, New York!" he probably didn't have the same odds in mind that line up against Henry and Nancy Clark in The Out-Of-Towners. Henry (Steve Martin) is an advertising man from Ohio who runs his life on an exacting schedule. His wife Nancy (Goldie Hawn) feels the spark has gone out of their lives together. After 24 years of marriage, their children are grown and nothing is tying them to their old home, so they decide to take a stab at relocating to New York City. Henry arranges a job interview in the Big Apple, they schedule a flight into Manhattan, and from that point on, anything that can go wrong does go wrong. Henry and Nancy's flight is delayed, their luggage is lost, their hotel reservations are cancelled, they're accosted by muggers, the cab they're riding in gets in a wreck, Henry is accidentally drugged and Nancy ends up in a group therapy meeting for sex addicts. The Out-Of-Towners is an updated remake of the 1970 comedy scripted by Neil Simon; the original version starred Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis as the hapless Midwesterners. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
