One of many "hidden camera" shows festooning the network-TV scene in the late '90s, Red Handed was obviously inspired by the theatrical feature The Truman Show, in which a young man was unaware that his entire life had been staged on TV as a never-ending sitcom. This series was not quite as elaborate, though it did feature participants who were inveigled into indulging in various "vices," unaware that their every move was being taped for later coast-to-coast viewing. A typical episode featured an unfortunate fellow caught in the act of leering at beautiful women by his gimlet-eyed girlfriend. Comedian Adam Carolla narrated the (allegedly) hilarious happenings. Debuting March 8, 1999 on UPN, Red Handed managed to hang in there until July of that same year. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Add Shelley Duvall's Tall Tales and Legends: Johnny Appleseed to Queue Add Shelley Duvall's Tall Tales and Legends: Johnny Appleseed to top of Queue
This 45-minute retelling of the Johnny Appleseed story was produced for Shelley Duvall's American Tall Tales and Legends. Martin Short is beautifully cast as John Chapman, the legendary figure who planted apple trees all over country. The story's lighthearted approach makes even the "death" finale palatable. Molly Ringwald plays Johnny's lost love, while Rob Reiner makes a supporting appearance, probably as a favor to his friend and colleague Christopher Guest, who directed. Johnny Appleseed was originally telecast on Showtime Cable. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

An impressive cast drives this early episode of Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre. Dennis Christopher -- best known from the 1979 sleeper hit Breaking Away -- is Jack, a boy who acquires a handful of magic beans in exchange for his poor family's cow. His mother, Soap's Katherine Helmond, is furious and throws the beans into garden beside the house. However, the beans grow overnight into a magnificent beanstalk that reaches into the clouds. Jack climbs the beanstalk only to find that it leads directly to the castle of a fierce yet wealthy giant. Elliot Gould and Jean Stapleton star as the giant and his equally gigantic wife. ~ Carrie Downes, Rovi
