Two happily married expectant parents get more than they bargained for after hiring a free-spirited Ukrainian housekeeper to help clean up their suburban palace in Killer Wave director Kevin Connor's playful domestic comedy. Marsha and David McMillan (Cynthia Preston and Larry Dorf) are about to have their first child, yet despite their excitement at the prospect of becoming parents, their home is in a hopeless state of disarray. Realizing that their only hope for tidying up before the big arrival is to hire an experienced housekeeper, Marsha and David agree to give the job to voluptuous Ukranian Sophia Petrenko (Alla Korot). When the infectiously friendly housekeeper begins inviting her relatives from the old country to come experience the good life in America, however, Marsha and David find their home overtaken by strangers just at the time when it should be getting baby-proofed. Canadian filmmaker Thom Fitzgerald directs the sentimental ensemble drama The Event. It seems that many AIDS sufferers have died under similar mysterious circumstances. Each case suggest the use of assisted suicide, which is illegal in New York. HIV-infected cellist Matt (Don McKellar) has died of a drug overdose following a large party in Manhattan given by his family and friends. Nick first questions his lover Brian (Brent Carver), who runs an HIV support clinic. Still looking for answers, she interviews Matt's closest family members, including his mother Lila (Olympia Dukakis), his younger sister Dana (Sarah Polley), and his older sister Gaby (Joanna P. Rob Morrow stars as investigating journalist Jonathan Neumann in this drama about police corruption in 1970s Philadelphia. When Neumann takes over the court beat for the Philadelphia Examiner, he quickly discovers wrongdoing at every turn, with cops beating suspects into often blatantly false confessions. As Neumann pieces together his story, he finds himself increasingly threatened by a posse of "goon squad" cops who tap his phone, break into his apartment, and even resort to physical assault. A brush with death causes a woman to see into the world in a different way in this psychological thriller from Canada. A young woman writing for a tabloid (Cynthia Preston) is working with a veteran reporter (Christopher Lloyd) on a story about a patient at a mental hospital who claims to be able to predict people's deaths. The woman finds herself flashing back to a plane crash in which she was nearly killed and recalling a series of unusual events that occurred in its wake.
