One of the world's most beloved fairy tales gets a slightly twisted update in the off-the-wall comedy from Germany. An enchanted forest is home to seven dwarves who, contrary to popular belief, are not noticeably shorter than the average guy and whose special skills are not all that special. The dwarves are, however, all guys who have been burned in their relationships with women, so when they happen upon beautiful Schneewittchen (Cosma Shiva Hagen) in the woods, they're interested but hardly optimistic. However, it turns out she's looking for refuge, and they're more than happy to help. Schneewittchen is on the run from the Evil Queen (Nina Hagen), who with the help of her henchman Spliss (Hans-Werner Olm) is trying to eliminate her more virtuous rival once and for all. When the Evil Queen manages to poison Schneewittchen and seal her inside a large plastic container suitable for leftovers, its up to the dwarves to rescue her and find the man who can bring her back to life. Nina Hagen, the noted German punk rocker who plays the Evil Queen, is the mother of Cosma Shiva Hagen, who appears as Schneewittchen; Nina's mother Eva Maria Hagen also makes a cameo appearance. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

A man has to make the body of his late girlfriend disappear, which he finds is not especially easy in this black comedy from Germany. Paul (Boris Aljinovic) is a straight-laced architect who lands a lucrative design contract and treats himself to a night on the town with his friend Max (Jurgen Tarrach), a pathologist, and his business partner Rike (Claudia Michelsen). During the course of the evening, however, someone doses Paul's drink with a heavy-duty hallucinogen, and the severely stoned Paul arrives at his flat entirely unaware that his girlfriend is dead on the floor of his living room, her neck having been broken during a sexual escapade gone wrong with her boss. The next morning, Paul, who has no memories of the previous night's activities, discovers the dead woman in his apartment; realizing he has no way to explain his innocence to the police, he calls on Max, who warily agrees to help him get rid of the body. But when a neighbor sees Paul and Max trying to drag a corpse out of the flat, they decide that some subterfuge is in order; thus, they try to reduce the bulk of the body in a variety of ways, using an array of household appliances (including a blender and a food processor), with a suitably disgusted Rike eventually called in to help. 3 Chinesen Mit Dem Kontrabass was the debut feature from writer and director Klaus Kraemer. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

A lover, an ultimatum, a phone call, and a gun: these elements are found in each segment of Hal Hartley's Flirt, an experimental comedy-drama that essentially repeats the same story three times. But while the basic narrative remains the same -- a congenital flirt must decide whether or not to commit to a current lover, who otherwise will marry someone else -- the details differ greatly, from the location of the film to the gender of the participants. The initial segment, set in New York, tells the tale with a male flirt in turmoil over his relationship with a woman. The film then moves to Berlin, where the same drama is played out amongst a gay male couple, with an added touch of self-reflexive humor. The third and final episode takes place in Tokyo, with a female flirt and a more abstract cinematic approach, including several sequences in traditional Japanese pantomime. ~ Judd Blaise, All Movie Guide
