In the tradition of Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Three's Company and Growing Up Brady comes the telemovie Dynasty: the Making of a Guilty Pleasure: a slightly tongue-in-cheek docudrama that purports to tell the scintillating story behind the scenes of ABC's nine-season prime time soaper about the Carringtons and the Colbys. The feature (produced by ABC itself) reflects on the parent network's own lust after a serial drama in the face of drowning competition from Dallas. To solve this issue, producer Aaron Spelling (here played by Nicholas Hammond) and show creators Richard and Esther Shapiro (Ritchie Singer and Pamela Reed) conceive of a modern American dress version of I, Claudius about the corrupting influences of wealth and power in the Reagan era. The suits devise the scheming character of Alexis Carrington Colby and bring Joan Collins (Alice Krige) in to play her as a kind of feminine equivalent of J.R. Ewing. The main thrust of the story involves the program's rise to one of the top-tiered series on television, followed by its inevitable fall when it disrespects and underestimates its regular audience. John Bart portrays John Forsythe, Melora Hardin plays Linda Evans, and Robert Coleby is Rock Hudson. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

Most girls would be thrilled to discover the most popular boy in school is attracted to them, but it leads to danger for one teenager in this thriller. Laurie Show (Jennifer Finnigan) is a teenager who moves with her mother Hazel (Mary-Margaret Humes) to a small town in Pennsylvania after her parents split up. Laurie finds it easy to make friends with her new classmates, but while covering the junior prom for the school's yearbook, Laurie discovers that Butch Yunkin (Rel Hunt), a popular boy who has been elected prom king, is especially fond of her. However, this seems to bring out mixed feelings in Michelle Lambert (Marnette Patterson), Butch's girlfriend, who is quite proud of her status as half of the school's most popular couple; Michelle seems to go out of her way to make friends with Laurie, but she occasionally betrays her jealousy over the fact Butch is attracted to Laurie. One night at a party, Butch begins flirting with Laurie, but after he kisses her, she actively protests his further advances; he responds by raping her. Michelle walks in as Butch is attacking Laurie, and immediately blames Laurie for seducing Butch. Michelle's version of the story soon sweeps though the school, and Laurie is widely considered a tramp who has tried to steal Butch away from the girl who loves him. Laurie's reputation is ruined, but this is hardly enough for Michelle, whose twisted obsession with destroying Laurie soon escalates into violence. Sally Jessy Raphael served as executive producer for this made-for-cable drama, which was inspired by actual events. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

One of the more difficult high school students in cinematic history moves on to college in this sexy thriller. Debbie Strand (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, in the role Rose McGowan played in the first film) was sentenced to a mental institution for the criminally insane after her previous murder spree, but she manages to escape, and while making her getaway by hitchhiking, she's picked up by Sydney Hollings (Christiana Frank), a student on her way to start classes at an upscale college nearby. Debbie murders Sydney and assumes her identity in hopes of avoiding the police, but Debbie's obsession with older men starts causing problems again when she becomes interested in Sam Decker (Jsu Garcia), one of her professors. Debbie soon learns that she has a rival for Sam's affections in Carla (Katherine Kendall), Sam's girlfriend, and this proves to be bad for the long-term health of all parties concerned. Debbie also finds she doesn't get along especially well with her new roommate, Laney (Jeanette Brox). Devil in the Flesh 2 was also screened under the title Teacher's Pet. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Beautiful location filming highlights this romantic comedy/adventure from Australia. Walter (Bryan Brown) is a shy mailman who delivers a route in the small town of Talok Spring near Australia's Whitsunday Islands. Walter has long had a crush on Claudia (Aleksandra Vujcic), who works at a barmaid in Talok Spring's local tavern. Walter politely lets Claudia tag along on a routine mail flight, though postal regulations expressly forbid it, and when a storm causes the plane to crash in the bay near an island, Walter and Claudia are able to swim to shore. For Walter, this is a dream come true -- the weather is beautiful, fruit, vegetables and seafood are in abundance, and he's alone with the woman he loves. However, Claudia, who does not return Walter's affection, is less than enthusiastic, and with good reason. It seems she stole a large quantity of gold and stashed it on the plane before takeoff, and is in no small hurry to recover it before the crime is traced back to her. Dear Claudia marked the feature film debut for writer/director Chris Cudlipp. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
