Italian director Fausto Brizzi's romantic comedy Ex draws from an ensemble framework and an all-star European cast, including Claudio Bisio, Nancy Brilli, Cristiana Capotondi and Cecile Castel, to meditate on the various situations engendered by the presence of former lovers - from the instances in which affection and devotion have regressed into hatred, to the cases where friendship blossoms from a prior romance, to the instances where love lingers on indefinitely. From instance to instance and one onscreen relationship to another, the film meditates on the myriad of ways in which old romantic partners can shape our lives. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

Post-operative paralysis gets played for laughs in this broad comedy starring popular Italian comic Vincenzo Salemme (who also directed and wrote the screenplay). Active and fun-loving Pericle (Salemme) finds himself confined to a wheelchair when an operation on his spine is botched by a careless doctor from France. An angry Pericle decides to sue, but to make his case he knows he'll need the help of his friend Mario (Carlo Buccirosso), a respected surgeon. Mario is not inclined to talk, however, as a major promotion is being dangled before him by the hospital where the surgery was performed as an inducement to keep quiet. Pericle decides to pay Mario an unexpected visit while he's on vacation in the hope he can be persuaded to help, but before long he finds himself travelling with a sizable entourage, including a beautiful physical therapist (Sabrina Ferilli), her close friend (Manuela Arcuri), Pericle's attorney (Maurizio Casagrande), and a pair of maiden aunts (Massimo Ceccherini and Nando Paone). Italian playwright turned director Vincenzo Salemme's sophomore effort is a bizarre romance between a bereaved widower and a rakish Mafioso libertine, both of whom are supposedly heterosexual. Mobster scion Bruno (Salemme) runs into a widowed policeman whose dead wife's eyes were donated to him thanks to a transplant. They experience a strange attraction that neither party can explain, thanks to Italy's organ donor anonymity laws. Soon, to the shock and disgust of his gangster family and peevish bride-to-be, Bruno begins acting in ways unbecoming a future godfather. ~ Jonathan Crow, All Movie Guide

This year, he has two students to bring up to speed in physics: Elsa (Carlotta Natou), a confident girl of the '90s, and Giulio (Arturo Paglia), a shy, soft-spoken boy. At the end of the holidays, after many weeks of intense tutoring, Matteo treats his charges to an overnight trip to the sea. Whatever he may possess in the way of good sense should prevent him from acting on his attraction to Elsa, but he is not able to accomplish this perfectly.
