Forces in the front lines of the war on terror find themselves battling a foe more deadly than a bomb in this thriller. Ben Keynes (Jonas Ball) is a CIA operative based in the Middle East who is keeping his eyes peeled for a potential crisis a few weeks after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Keynes is checking some readings from a spy satellite when he discovers what appears to be a massive cache of radioactive material in the mountains of Afghanistan. Worried that Al Qaeda guerrillas are constructing a nuclear weapon, Keynes arranges to join a reconnaissance mission headed to Afghanistan, using the cover story that he's trying to ferret out an international terrorist leader. Keynes and the soldiers head into the mountains with a local, Abdul (Chems-Eddine Zinoune), serving as both translator and guide. Abdul warns Keynes and the soldiers that their intended destination is considered sacred ground by Afghans, and that they're risking their lives by trespassing. Keynes pays him little mind, but he and the soldiers soon discover that Abdul's warnings were well founded, and that a supernatural force lurks in the mountains more dangerous than any band of terrorists. The Objective was written and directed by Daniel Myrick, who made his debut in 1999 with the independent blockbuster The Blair Witch Project. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

The writer and performer of such stinging monologues as Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll, Eric Bogosian returns to the stage to skewer everything from pop culture to religion in this striking return to the stage. Portraying a series of characters that include a salesman who may just be Satan and a shockingly amoral Hollywood producer, it seems that any and everybody is fair game for the sharp-tongued satirist -- and in the post-9/11 era where paranoia runs rampant, Bogosian provides a brutally honest but shockingly entertaining alternative to the mainstream mindset. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
Robert Lee King directs this wacky, campy fusion of teenaged surfer flicks and slasher sagas. Impossibly perky Florence (Lauren Ambrose) doesn't quite fit in at her thoroughly square high school in her seaside Southern California town -- that is, until she happens upon a band of ultra-hip surfer dudes. Renaming herself "Chicklet," she tries her gosh-darnedest to be the sole girl riding the waves with the group led by suave Kanaka (Thomas Gibson). While adopting her surfer alter ego, Florence soon discovers that other less pleasant personalities emerge when confronted with the sight of polka dots. One called Anne Bowman is a tough, "experienced" older lady, while the other, Tylene, is a stereotypical sassy black woman. Blacking out whenever these other personalities take over, Florence becomes increasingly worried that she is responsible for a series of grizzly murders. Of course, she is far from the only suspicious character in her oceanside community -- there's B-movie star Bettina Barnes (Kimberly Davies), Swedish exchange student Lars (Matt Keeslar), and Florence's own unnervingly-perfect mom (Beth Broderick). This film was adapted from a popular off-Broadway play written by Charles Busch. ~ Jonathan Crow, All Movie Guide

In the Australian vernacular, the word "dag" refers to the filth-covered hindquarters of a sheep; it is also used, with affection, to describe vulgar, unsophisticated people, usually of the working class. This low-brow comedy targets just such people and their colorful, scruffy lives. Cheryl, who thinks K-Mart is the most wonderful place on earth, is engaged to stoner Daryl until she decides that she deserves someone better. Kevin dreams of making the Guinness Book of World Records by convincing his buddy Trevor to rob his video store every night. One evening, Trevor ends up taking Cheryl hostage, leading Kevin to save her. Convinced she has at last found her perfect man, Cheryl falls instantly in love. Meanwhile Tina illicitly trysts with Enzo, her best friend's handsome boyfriend. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
