Best-known for his long-running and infamously trashy TV talk show, U.K.-born Jerry Springer first entered the public eye as a politician, running a failed congressional campaign and later serving briefly as the mayor of Cincinnati, OH. Springer segued into TV news in the 1980s with a series of on-air editorials before becoming Cincinnati's most-watched anchor on the local NBC affiliate, a gig he held on to until 1993. The Jerry Springer Show premiered in 1991 and was at first a straight-forward political and current-event show. However, before long, Springer upped the sensational aspects of the show in an attempt to boost ratings. And while he garnered plenty of criticism for the lowest-common-denominator antics, the show did indeed become a hit. In 1998, Springer lampooned himself and his show in Ringmaster, a feature film that was met with low box-office performance and unanimous critical panning. He also played himself in a brief appearance in the hit film Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. In 2007, after an unsuccessful stab at liberal talk radio, Springer appeared on the fourth season of ABC's hit reality competition Dancing with the Stars. While he was declared one of the season's worst dancers, Springer stuck with the genre, taking over for Regis Philbin later that year as host of the reality talent show America's Got Talent. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi

Justice is turned into a game show, with life and death as the stakes, in this satirical drama. Florida governor Bull Tyler (Roy Scheider) is trying to ease the dissatisfaction of his constituents in the midst of a major crime wave by getting tough on wrongdoers, and television producer Marty Rockman (Jerry Springer) has offered him a high-profile way to do just that. Rockman, best known for his splashy reality programs, has come up with an idea for a new show -- "Citizen Verdict," in which an alleged murderer is tried in three hours on broadcast television, with the viewers voting on the guilt or innocence of the accused. If 75 percent or more of those who call in vote to convict, the defendant will be executed as part of a pay-per-view special to follow. Tyler thinks the show could be a good publicity stunt and gives his OK, with Ricky Carr (Raffaello Degruttola), accused of murdering the host of a popular cooking show, given the honor of starring in the first episode. Carr is being defended by Sam Patterson (Armand Assante), a once-respected civil rights lawyer fallen on hard times, while prosecutor Jessica Landers (Justine Mitchell) represents the state. Romance blooms during a very, very long cab ride in A Fare to Remember. Advertising executive Tamara Gault (Challen Cates) gets fast talked into taking an assignment for work on Christmas Eve, but she does so with an eye on the clock, as she needs to get from Seattle back to her home in Los Angeles in time for her wedding. However, Tamara discovers to her horror that all flights out of the Pacific Northwest have been cancelled due to an emergency. Desperate, she hires a cab driver, Winter Valen (Malcolm-Jamal Warner), to drive her from Washington to California. Tamara and Winter have absolutely nothing in common and don't much care for each other at first, but as time goes, by the ice begins to melt and Tamara starts to wonder if the man she really wants could be the guy behind the wheel. Austin Powers -- fashion photographer, denizen of Swingin' London, international espionage agent, and bane of dental hygienists everywhere -- returns in his second screen adventure. Powers (once again played by Mike Myers), a 1960s superspy stranded in the 1990s, discovers that his nemesis, criminal genius Dr. Evil (also Mike Myers), has somehow stolen his "mojo" (the secret to his otherwise inexplicable sex appeal) and traveled back in time to the 1960s as part of his latest fiendish scheme. Powers must also travel back in time to retrieve it, but if Austin doesn't quite fit into 1998, he's been there just long enough not to fit in in 1968 anymore, either. Powers also discovers that Dr. Evil has new allies this time: Mini-Me (Verne Troyer), a clone of Dr. Evil one-eighth his size but just as nasty; Fat Bastard (Myers yet again), whose name describes him just fine; and vixenish assassin Robin Swallows (Gia Carides). Powers' lack of mojo also proves troublesome when he's paired with his new partner, saucy CIA operative Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham). Other characters returning from the first film include Elizabeth Hurley as Vanessa Kensington, Robert Wagner as Number Two, Michael York as Basil Exposition, Seth Green as Scott Evil, and Mindy Sterling as Frau Farbissina. After the success of shock-jock Howard Stern's Private Parts, shock-TV host Jerry Springer made his own foray into celluloid. Fictionalizing only the name of his television show (what is normally called the The Jerry Springer Show, is now called "The Jerry Show"), Springer plays himself as a man who fronts a chair-throwing, dog-and-pony trash TV strip which gets high ratings in the backwoods, armpit communities of America. The story revolves around two sets of guests coming to Los Angeles to be on the show. First, the Zorzak family has slutty 19-year-old Angel (Jaime Pressly), sleeping with her stepdad (Michael Dudikoff). When her mom (Molly Hagan) finds out, she seeks revenge by sleeping with Angel's fiancé, Willie (Ashley Holbrook). The second group consists of Starletta (Wendy Raquel Robinson), who caught her man, Demond (Michael Jai White), sleeping with her best friend, Vonda (Tangie Ambrose). This makes all of them perfect for stardom on The Jerry Show. As all these guests arrive for their big day on national television, more chaos ensues with Springer getting propositioned by Angel and her mother. Even crew members show their stripes by getting involved in the sexual escapades with the guests. The whole scenario is finally brought to a knockdown, gender-bending finale live on national television -- right where it belongs. ~ Chris Gore, Rovi
