Rolando Colla's Summer Games tells the tale of a half-dozen kids who end up spending their days together while their various families all stay at the same vacation spot on the Tuscan coast. Twelve-year old Nic (Armando Condolucci) sees his father abuse his mother on a regular basis, but he's drawn to Marie (Fiorella Campanella), the oldest girl in their group of friends. She's desperate to find out what happened to her father, and her mother refuses to give any indication of where he might be. As these two learn hard life lessons, their childlike games take on a more adult tone as the summer goes along, until their last day together leads to an unforgettable adventure. Summer Games was part of the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

A belated reunion between two estranged brothers is marred by distrust and sibling rivalry in this family drama from director Rolando Colla. Hamid is a forty year-old Algerian man currently living in Brussels. He makes his living by working for an illegal underground network suspected of financing terrorism, and suspects that the authorities are monitoring his every move. One day, seemingly out of the blue, Hamid receives a telephone call from his brother Louis, whom he hasn't seen in over three decades. Despite the fact that he believes the authorities orchestrated the call, Hamid accepts his brother's request to join him in Switzerland so that the brothers may visit their ageing mother. Later, as Hamid and Louis return to Brussels, there is no question that the police are closing in. While Hamid remains steadfast in his determination to discover what role his brother played in the apparent sting operation, Louis probes to learn the reason why he and his brother have been separated for so long. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Rolando Colla made his directorial debut with this Swiss-French-Italian period drama about a Breton woman who disguises herself as a man to join a ship's crew during the 18th century. Rebellious 24-year-old Anne Bruneau (Laurence Cote) is abandoned at the altar by her fiancé Yann (Denis Lavant). Unaware that Yann was drunk and fell down a well, Anne reacts to his absence by cutting her hair, dressing like a man, and signing on with a ship captained by a dwarf (Jean-Claude Grenier). When Yann learns what happened, he begins running south to Marseilles to rejoin her. Aboard the ship, Anne's disguise is discovered by the captain and the ship's doctor (Yann Collette). With an Arab (Roschdy Zem), she jumps ship, hiding with hookers in Marseilles while still maintaining her disguise. The score is based on traditional tunes and gypsy music. Shown in competition at the 1998 Locarno Film Festival. ~ Bhob Stewart, Rovi
