This ABC reality game show featured a weekly roster of six contestants, either individually or in teams, who engaged in bizarre and offbeat sports competitions. Among the major events featured were "Interpretive Pizza Tossing," "Cocktail Juggling," "International Human Fireworks," "Blindfolded Archery," and "Extreme Unicycle." In an unusual move, the contestants were not confined to adults, but ranged in age from ten years old upward. After the audience in the studio and at home voted to pare the six contestants down to three, the "Master of Champions" was chosen by a three-person Panel of Champions, including baseball star Steve Garvey, gold-medal ice skater Oksana Baiul, and skiing champ Jonny Moseley. Co-hosted by Chris Leary and Lisa Dergan-Podsednik, the weekly, hour-long Master of Champions debuted June 22, 2006. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In this sequel to the 1993 box-office hit The Sandlot, it's 1972, and a new bunch of neighborhood kids have taken over the field where they play baseball all summer. Saul (Cole Evan Weiss) is the unofficial leader of the group, who heads up the baseball team and looks after his younger brother, Sammy (Sean Berdy), who can't hear but does play-by-play on the games using sign language. Saul has to face the indignity of letting girls play on his team, but things get even worse when one of them brings her dad's toy rocket to the field. The model accidentally sails over the fence and into the yard of Mr. Mertle (James Earl Jones), owner of the meanest dog in town, leaving the kids with a serious dilemma about getting it back. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

From their early days in Brooklyn, where the Dodgers year after year vainly went up against their cross-town rivals the New York Yankees until winning the World Series in 1955, to the present day, with the team (now based in Los Angeles) holding the record for the third most victories in major league history, few baseball teams have enjoyed as storied a history or enjoyed as passionate a fan following as these boys in blue. Dodger Blue: The Championship Years is a documentary (produced in affiliation with Major League Baseball) that traces the history of the Dodgers from the club's formation to the 2004 season, and profiles such legendary ballplayers as Jackie Robinson, Don Drysdale, Sandy Koufax, Pee Wee Reese, Maury Wills, Fernando Valenzuela, Kirk Gibson, and Steve Garvey. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

After several weeks filming The Scout in the late 1970s, star Peter Falk and director Howard Zieff abandoned the project. Two decades later, writer Andrew Bergman gave his original script to Albert Brooks and Monica Johnson, who polished it as a vehicle for Brooks and director Michael Ritchie. Brooks stars as Al Percolo, a talent scout for the New York Yankees whose latest recruit (Michael Rapaport) has just vomited on the field and fled. Sent to Mexico as punishment by his boss (Lane Smith), Percolo finds phenomenal young pitcher Steve Nebraska (Brendan Fraser). Before he can get back to the Big Apple, however, Percolo gets pink-slipped by the Yankees, so he offers Nebraska as a free agent. After a stellar tryout, Nebraska is signed for millions. Soon after, he starts to exhibit odd behaviors that may be linked to psychological problems. A psychiatrist (Dianne Wiest) hired by the ball club wants Nebraska in daily therapy, so Percolo ends up babysitting a mentally unstable pitcher. Brooks' normally winning mix of laughs with psychological insights didn't add up to box office or critical success, despite cameos from real-life sports figures such as George Steinbrenner and Steve Garvey. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

I Take These Men is a variation on the 1941 Ginger Rogers theatrical feature Tom, Dick, and Harry. While being feted at a surprise 15th wedding anniversary party, Carol Sherwood (Susan St. James) startles the well-wishers by asking her dull dentist husband, Stuart (James Sherwood), for a divorce. As the party nervously continues, Carol fantasizes what her life might have been like had she married one of her three guests: pompous real-estate mogul Craig Wyler (Adam West), nerdish professor David Koenig (John Rubinstein), or good-natured truck driver Phil Zakarian (Brian Dennehy) -- who happens to be the husband of her best friend, Elaine (Dee Wallace). Just in case the viewer doesn't find all this funny, the producers have helpfully added a laugh track. I Take These Men was unveiled by CBS on January 5, 1983. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

During the 1970s, the Gong Show was a game/talent show phenomenon. With equal measures of parody, camp and pure lowest-common denominator exploitation, it presented a bizarre assortment of talented and untalented contestants (for example, the musician who played his trumpet with his bellybutton) making their bid for stardom, and a ridiculous prize of $516.32 while three rambunctious minor celebrity judges looked on offering scores for acts they liked, or instantly stopping showing disapproval by pounding furiously on a large Chinese gong. The co-creator, producer and acid-witted but smarmy daytime host of this tawdry kitsch pastiche was Chuck Barris (AKA "Chuckie Baby"). This attempt at a serious drama chronicles a day in his hectic life as he tries to prepare a new episode of his crazy show. As he deals with a seemingly unending string of increasingly freaky acts, the pressure begins to get to the sensitive, caring (as portrayed in the film) Barris and by the day's end he becomes a true lunatic. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
