Sofia Milos Movies
Though her family would ultimately settle in Italy, Sofia Milos was born to a Greek father and Italian mother in Zurich, Switzerland. By the time she reached adolescence, Milos had demonstrated a clear knack for the liberal arts, and, in addition to proving herself a skilled painter, had become fluent in Italian, French, German, Greek, Suisse, Spanish, and English. Though she wouldn't begin acting until later in life, Milos nonetheless got used to public scrutiny when she won a beauty contest at the age of 14, beginning a successful modeling career a year later -- so successful, in fact, that the money she earned modeling throughout France, Italy, Japan, Russia, and the United States paid for her education at the School of Business and Economics in Switzerland.In 1990, Milos decided to take up residence in the United States, where she spent time living in New York before settling down in Los Angeles. Shortly after her arrival, Milos began attending acting classes at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, which is led by renowned acting coach and director Milton Katselas. Milos worked primarily in theater circles until 1993, when she was cast in Café Americain, NBC's short-lived sitcom co-starring Valerie Bertinelli and Maurice Godin. Though the show wasn't a hit, the right people noticed her potential, and Milos began racking up an impressive television resumé. She appeared on Friends in 1995, made a guest appearance on Mad About You in 1996, and landed a reoccurring role on Caroline in the City from 1997-1998. Though she made her feature film debut in 1999 -- she played one of Tim Meadows' voluptuous love interests in The Ladies Man -- it wasn't until her performance as mob boss Annalisa Zucca on HBO's The Sopranos that she would achieve mainstream recognition.
HBO continued to showcase Milos' talents in Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm, for which she played an entirely improvised role as the girlfriend of Richard Lewis. After several more unsuccessful television pilots and a guest spot on ER, Milos starred as a long-suffering widow opposite Jason Isaacs and Lupe Ontiveros in Passionada (2003). Debuting over MyNetworkTV on September 5, 2006, Desire was one of two nightly hour-long continuing dramas seen over the fledgling network during its first season on the air; both this series and its companion show, Fashion House, were inspired by the Spanish-language "telenovela" genre, and both were filmed in San Diego. The principal players in Desire included the Thomas brothers, Alex (Zack Silva) and Louis (Nate Haden), who had to give up running their restaurant in Bayonne, NJ, when the headstrong Louis was caught in bed with the daughter of a gang boss. Fleeing the gangsters' wrath, the Thomas boys relocated to California, where they went to work for sexy Andrea Zavatti (Michelle Belegrin), heiress to a huge restaurant fortune. Having lost her best employee and boyfriend George (Tomy Dunster) to her false friend Suzy (Vivian Gray), Andrea's affections were torn between the affable Alex and the ruthless Louis for the balance of the series. Others in the cast included Andrea's calculating half-sister, Victoria Marston (Sofia Milos), vengeful mob chieftain Joey Gamarra (Chris de Rose), and the Thomas brothers' long-suffering mother, Rita (Eliana Alexander). The opening episode of CSI: Miami's third season represents the final series appearance of Rory Cochrane as Tim Speedle, streetwise member of the Florida-based CSI unit headed by the mercurial Horatio Caine (David Caruso). Speedle is killed during the investigation of a combination kidnapping and jewel theft, though it would not be until the following episode that the viewers would know which of the team members lost his (or her) life. Fortunately, the remainder of the unit -- including detectives Yelina Salas (Sofia Milos), Calleigh Duquesne (Elizabeth Procter), and Eric Delko (Adam Rodriguez) -- are alive and well, still solving crimes by combing through the most microscopic of forensic evidence. Also on hand in an increasingly recurring role is Rex Linn as Detective Frank Tripp, while Jonathan Togo as Ryan Wolfe makes the transition from recurring to regular. This season, the unit's cases include a murderer who acts as his own lawyer (and is damn good at it!), an e-mail "flash message" that leads to a death on a golf course, a baseball player accused of murder whose defense team members may be accessories after the fact, a gang-related killing that is sparked by the proverbial woman scorned, a search for a counterfeiting ring that is complicated by a sudden and enormous influx of tourists, and a fire in the Everglades which might or might not have been set as a literal smokescreen for a serial killer. ~ All Movie Guide

Kovacs' (Goran Visnjic) car accident and disastrous misdiagnosis has left a patient with profound brain damage. While Weaver (Laura Innes) suffers from the side effects of her "secret" pregnancy, Abby (Maura Tierney) covers for her at the ER. The heightened security measures at County General ensnare Pratt (Mekhi Phifer), who is packing a gun -- thereby placing Carter (Noah Wyle) in an unenviable position. Gallant (Sharif Atkins) squares off against the mercenary young bride (Sofia Milos) of an elderly patient (Patrick Cranshaw). And Lewis (Sherry Stringfield) keeps a suicide watch on a self-admitted child molester. Although Horatio Caine (David Caruso) is still in charge of a super-efficient team of forensic criminologists during season two of CSI: Miami, one of those team members, former CSI head Megan Donner, is conspicuous by her absence -- as indeed she had been since halfway through season one. According to the plotline, Megan had quit the unit because she could not shake her memories of her husband's violent death. According to Hollywood rumor, however, the actress who played Megan, Kim Delaney, was unable to establish a rapport with series star David Caruso. Whatever the case, the unit has a new member this year, Detective Yelina Salas (Sofia Milos). Also added to the cast is the CSI's new DNA tech, Valera (Boti Ann Bliss). Throughout the season, the taciturn Caine will be drawn emotionally to Salas. This however, does not compromise either team member's ability to solve crimes by piecing together the tiniest bits of forensic evidence. CSI's assignments this year include the investigation of a model's death by deliberate vehicular homicide; the probe of a murder by spear gun; a closer examination of the death of a man who was supposedly killed in a hurricane (he wasn't); and Caine's ongoing campaign to locate the murderer of his brother. One of the final episodes of season two, "MIA/NYC -- NonStop," represents a crossover between CSI: Miami and its sister series, CSI: NY, allowing David Caruso to compare notes with his CSI: NY counterpart, Gary Sinise. ~ All Movie Guide

This tongue-in-cheek ABC adventure series used the basic premise of the old Robert Wagner starrer It Takes a Thief, but with an attractive addition to the formula. John Stamos and Melissa George starred as Johnny and Rita, a brace of good-looking professional cat burglars (in an amusing twist, he was the brains and she was the brawn!). Caught in the act, Johnny and Rita were approached by the FBI and made an offer they couldn't refuse. If they hoped to avoid jail time, they would have to assist the authorities by using their larcenous talents to "recover" stolen or missing government property. Though Johnny and Rita insisted that they could not abide each other's company, the viewer knew better. Assigned to supervise the two not-quite-reformed crooks was harried FBI special agent Shue (Robert Knepper). Filmed in Toronto by Warner Bros./Kopelson Entertainment, the weekly, one-hour Thieves made its first network appearance on September 28, 2001 (its original September 21 debut date was pushed forward by ongoing coverage of the World Trade Center disaster). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

A middle-aged couple are troubled by the pitter-patter of grown-up feet in this comedy. Clayton Avolini (Bernie Sparago) and his wife Lindsay (Catherine McGoohan) share their home with their grown son Bud (James O'Leary), who is trying to break into hip-hop music. Clayton has just become eligible for retirement, and he's eager to sell the family home and move someplace quiet down South. However, Clayton's plans haven't gotten very far when he suddenly has to deal with some unwelcome guests. His three other adult children, Scott (Brian Williams), Michael (Tony Mortillaro), and Ann Marie (Heather McClurg), have all washed out of their careers, and have come home to live with Mom and Dad for a while. Clayton and Lindsay are trying to decide what to do with their suddenly crowded home when Lindsay's mother Nellie (Sparkle) also appears at the doorstep. This TV sitcom revolves around three divorced New Yorkers -- nutty Andy (Mitch Rouse), who manufactures artificial fruits and vegetables; charming nerd Phil (Peter Gallagher), who still yearns for his ex; and spiteful, misanthropic Phil (Brad Whitford), a business manager for athletes. These guys play a lot of golf and log long hours at the neighborhood restaurant, where they vacillate between cynicism and self-pity. Jean-Claude Van Damme stars as a reformed artifacts smuggler in this adventure-thriller directed by Sheldon Lettich. Rudy (Van Damme) is forced to venture to Jerusalem after his father is taken hostage by a group of religious extremists. In order to free his dad, Rudy must find a ancient scroll that contains secret information about a mysterious and ancient religious sect. Not surprisingly, that same sect doesn't want that particular scroll to be found. Rudy is thus forced to contend with many powerful obstacles as he sets about to procure the artifact and free his dad. Yet another recurring character from Saturday Night Live makes the jump to the big screen in this comedy. Leon Phelps (Tim Meadows) is the host of a radio call-in show in which he dispenses advice on the fine art of seduction, for which he seems to have quite a talent -- rather surprising, seeing that he's usually broke, nearly everything he says sounds crass and obvious, and he possesses a fashion sense that would have been gauche in the mid-1970s but seems just plain freakish today. After finally going too far during a broadcast, Leon is fired, but he receives a note from one of his former flames who wants him to come back to her -- and is willing to support him in high style. This sounds just fine with Leon, except she hasn't signed her name, and now Leon has to backtrack through his numerous conquests of the past and figure out who wants him to work his love magic. Meanwhile, a group of husbands who've been cuckolded by Leon, led by Barney (Lee Evans) and Lance (Will Ferrell), are hot on his trail, eager to get revenge. The Ladies' Man also stars Tiffani Thiessen and Karyn Parsons as two of the ladies in Leon's life and Billy Dee Williams as the ultra-smooth proprietor of Lester's Straight-Up Lounge. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

A man discovers honoring one of his father's last wishes isn't as easy as he hoped in this broad comedy. Middle-aged Bernardo Puccini (Ezio Greggio) helps to care for his elderly father in Milan. One day, Bernardo's dad, who is in poor health, makes a request - before he dies, he'd like to spend some time with his American friend Jake Gordon, whom he met during the war. Bernardo dutifully flies to the United States to track Jake down and bring him to Italy for a reunion. Bernardo manages to find Jake (Mel Brooks), but discovers he's currently a patient in a mental institution and not very stable. Not wanting to disappoint his father, Bernardo smuggles Jake out of the hospital to bring him back to Italy, but Barbara (Julie Condra), Jake's doctor, gets wind of his scheme and follows them to Milan to bring Jake back home. Screw Loose (aka Svitati) marked something of a reunion for star Mel Brooks, co-star and director Ezio Greggio, and screenwriter Rudy De Luca; Greggio made his American acting debut in Brooks' Dracula: Dead And Loving It, while De Luca wrote several films for Brooks, including High Anxiety and Life Stinks, and acted in Greggio's directorial debut, Il Silenzio dei Prosciutti. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

A woman learning to trust men again finds herself falling for a man who may not be trustworthy in this romantic comedy. Celia Amonte (Sofia Milos) is a beautiful woman of Portuguese-American heritage who lost her husband, a fisherman, to an accident at sea. Eight years after his death, Celia remains loyal to her late husband's memory, even though her equally lovely teenage daughter, Vicky (Emmy Rossum), frequently encourages her to start dating again, and has even tried fixing Celia up with eligible men. Unknown to her mother, Vicky has become a frequent visitor to a local gambling casino, where she meets a handsome Englishman named Charlie Beck (Jason Isaacs), who gambles for a living. Vicky urges Charlie to see Celia perform at a local nightclub, where she sings the passionate Portuguese songs of the fado style. Charlie is immediately taken with her, but Celia isn't especially interested in him. Vicky makes a deal with Charlie -- if he'll show her how to cheat at blackjack, she'll persuade Celia to go out with him. In time, Charlie's charm eventually conquers Celia's reservations, and a romance begins to bloom, However, Charlie has made the mistake of telling Celia he's a fisherman, and he's not sure how much longer he can keep up the charade.
