Season Six of Murder She Wrote closes with an episode centering around the exploits of Jessica Fletcher's (Angela Lansbury) erstwhile friend, suave British secret agent Michael Haggerty (Len Cariou). On assignment in Sicily, Haggerty poses as a monsignor to crack a case involving a caddish fortune hunter, a wealthy young widow and her Mafia-connected in-laws (who never let her out of her sight!), and various and sundry other intrigues. Also returning in this episode is Ian Ogilvy as Haggerty's sometime cohort Peter Baines. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
It's H.G. Wells (Malcolm McDowell) versus Jack the Ripper (David Warner) in the fanciful Time After Time -- and, per the film's title, the chase extends from the 19th century to the 20th. Wells has built a time machine in his cellar, which the Ripper uses as a means of escape. Both men find themselves in 20th century San Francisco, and, after a period of adjustment, they make themselves at home. The plot takes a dark turn when the Ripper, disappointed that Wells' dreams of a Utopian future have not come to fruition, resumes his murderous activities. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Though the title suggests that this film is a musical romance built around the song hit of the same name, Second Time Around is actually a comedy western. Debbie Reynolds plays a young widow who in 1912 moves with her children to a wild and wooly Arizona town. At first having trouble coming to grips with frontier life, Reynolds adjusts quite well--to the extent that she is appointed sheriff. She is courted by Andy Griffith and Steve Forrest, both of whom ride to the rescue when Reynolds bites off more than she can chew and she is captured by outlaws. Sheriff Reynolds marries Forrest, while Griffith, presumably, moves on to a new job in Mayberry. The big selling angle of Second Time Around was a very brief farcical scene involving Debbie Reynolds and a bathtub, which ended up plastered all over the advertising material for this film. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
