Andrew Shea's scabrous and brutal psychological drama Forfeit concerns Frank O'Neal (Billy Burke), a man who once murdered his abusive father as an adolescent, and fled from his home in Los Angeles. Now, after years away from that city, a thirtysomething Frank returns to L.A., accepts a job as an armored car guard, and attempts to re-bond with an old sweetheart, Karen (E.R.'s Sherry Stringfield). But in reality, Frank is a clinical sociopath, scheming and plotting to stage a massive robbery and setting Karen up to take the rap. Frank is also a die-hard religious proselytizer, guided in his pursuits by a domineering, manipulative televangelist who controls everything he says and does. In time, as Frank prepares to execute the robbery, the minister pushes him to the edge of a complete mental breakdown. Bill (Bill Paxton) contemplates an expensive new marketing campaign for Home Plus, including a new slogan ("Home Plus...is us.") and ads that include subliminal visual cues aimed at the Mormon consumer. Don (Joel McKinnon Miller) insists that they should disentangle themselves from Roman Grant (Harry Dean Stanton) before they put a lot of money into a new campaign. A couple of Mormon missionaries visit Nicki's (Chloë Sevigny) house, and she suspects Pam (Audrey Wasilewski) of sending them. Margene (Ginnifer Goodwin) doesn't believe it, and she later sneaks out of the house to join Pam and Carl (Carlos Jacott) for services at the local LDS church. While bulldozers idle ominously outside Lois' (Grace Zabriskie) gas station and her home, Joey (Shawn Doyle) calls Bill with some bad news; he actually did sign some papers involving Roman's real-estate deals, so if Bill exposes Roman, the Attorney General will also come after Joey. Joey also relays a message from Roman to Bill; he'll have his answer soon. Sarah (Amanda Seyfried) invites Heather (Tina Majorino) over to the house without warning the family. Because of the incident at Home Plus, Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn) finds out about Nicki's massive credit-card debts, and confronts her about it. Nicki begs her not to tell Bill. Two friends who've convinced themselves they would never make a good couple discover they might just be wrong in this romantic comedy. When they parted, however, Emily decided not to pursue a relationship with Oliver, even though he was obviously interested. Over the next several years, circumstances kept putting them in one another's paths, and over the years Oliver and Emily became close friends and confidantes. Both are still certain, though, that they're entirely wrong for each other on a romantic level. However, after nearly a decade, with both Oliver and Emily edging into their thirties, they begin to wonder if they've allowed a great opportunity to pass them by. Scott McKinsey's inspirational drama Guarding Eddy stars Brian Presley as Eddy, an 18 year old who dreams of playing pro hoops for the L.A. Clippers. Hampering him in his quest is the fact that he is developmentally disabled. He sneaks away to the City of Angels to try and make his dream come true, but eventually ends up spending time with Mike (Kiko Ellsworth), a former pro baller who now works at a shelter. Their friendship blossoms into something that sustains both of them, and helps Mike get over the bitterness he feels about how his career ended. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

The bodies of teenagers Toby Wellstone and Jill Frommer are found a half-mile apart in the Hell's Gate region of Death Valley. The curiously arranged evidence suggests that the teens died in a Romeo-and-Juliet suicide pact, but Sara (Jorja Fox) and Warrick (Gary Dourdan) refuse to rule out the possibility of murder. Meanwhile, Grissom (William L. The big day has finally arrived: Xander (Nicholas Brendon) and Anya (Emma Caulfield) are getting married. The obstacles on their path to wedded bliss include atrocious bridesmaid's dresses, a stubborn cumberbund, and bitter sniping from the alcoholic Harris clan about the "circus freaks" (aka demons) who make up Anya's half of the wedding party. During the preparations, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) has a wistful encounter with Spike (James Marsters), whose cheap floozie of a wedding date causes pangs of jealousy even as the Slayer resolves to keep their relationship in the past tense. As for Anya, her dreams of wedded bliss soon also recede into memory when Xander disappears from the chapel. It seems the prospective groom has received a visit from his time-traveling, elderly self, who shows Xander a vision of the future in which his marriage ends in bitterness and murder. Later, when old-man Xander turns out to be a disguised enemy of Anya seeking revenge against the former vengeance demon, Xander still can't overcome his conviction that he isn't ready to get married. The guests riot, the absentee groom checks into a hotel, and the jilted bride turns to D'Hoffryn (Andy Umberger), her former demon master, for comfort. This three-part drama, produced for HBO, examines the changing tides of the lives of lesbians in America, both politically and personally, as we eavesdrop on three stories taking place in the same house over a span of five decades. In 1961, the house is home to Edith (Vanessa Redgrave) and Abby (Marian Seldes), an elderly lesbian couple whose lifestyle is not accepted or acknowledged by their families. When Abby suffers a serious stroke and is on the verge of death, her family rallies to her side, but not understanding the nature of her relationship with Edith, she is not included as her loved ones say their final good-byes. After Abby's death, her nephew (Paul Giamatti) and his wife (Elizabeth Perkins) arrive from out of state with plans to sell the house, without consulting Edith. In 1972, the house is now home to four college students, Michelle (Amy Carlson), Linda (Michelle Williams), Karen (Nia Long), and Jeanne (Natasha Lyonne), all of whom are actively involved in the women's movement and also happen to be lesbians. The four find themselves at odds with the campus women's group when they try to promote an all-women's dance, while the other members of the group feel that feminism, not lesbianism, should be the focus of the group. Similarly, Linda faces hostility from her friends when she becomes involved with Amy (Chloe Sevigny), a very butch townie; Linda's friends see Amy's masculine attire and attitude as a form of self-loathing against being a woman, and while Linda cares deeply for Amy, she's not always comfortable with her and isn't sure that she wants to be public with their relationship. In 2000, Fran (Sharon Stone) and Kal (Ellen DeGeneres), a happy and firmly committed couple, are sharing the house, and after much discussion, they decide that they want to take their relationship to the next level and have a baby. However, deciding that they want a child and dealing with the practicalities of getting pregnant are two different things; Fran and Kal first debate about going to a sperm bank as opposed to asking one of their male friends to help out, and later, either going to a doctor to perform the procedure or trying it at home. DeGeneres' significant other, Anne Heche, wrote and directed the final segment; the 1972 story was directed by Martha Coolidge, and the 1961 episode was directed by Jane Anderson. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

After private eye Mike Roberts is murdered, John (Bill Brochtrup) tells Sipowicz about Mike's cryptic warning. It all ties in with the wealthy Malcolm Cullinan (Todd Waring), whom John believes was responsible for the death of the benighted Dolores Mayo. Subsequent events relating to this development cause Jill (Andrea Thompson) to sever her relationship with Cohen (Michael B. Silver).
