A twentysomething misfit dedicates his life to giving the drummer some, even when the drums are only imaginary, in this comedy written and directed by comic Ari Gold. Power (Gold) grew up in a small mining town in New Mexico, where his father (Michael McKean) always imagined his son would one day join him in digging copper from the earth. But Power has a dream of playing the drums, and since he doesn't have a drum kit, he's become a master of "air drums," flailing his arms in the manner of Neil Peart or Keith Moon against a huge but nonexistent set of traps. Power's desire to become the world's greatest air drummer doesn't earn him much respect at home, so he travels to Mexico, where he learns of an air-drumming competition in Newark, NJ. Power hits the road for the garden state and meets Carlos (Steven Williams), a master air drummer who becomes his guide in the art of not really playing. Power also gets some much-needed encouragement from Annie (Shoshannah Stern), a sweet born-again girl living upstairs from him. But when Power learns that his father back home is leading a strike to save jobs for the employees at the local copper mine, winning the title becomes a matter of defending the honor of his family and his hometown, and he dedicates himself to defeating arrogant country music star Dallas Houston (Adrien Grenier), who is favored to win. Lauren Weisberger's best-selling novel about a young woman who stumbles into the hectic worlds of high fashion and publishing comes to the big screen in this comedy. Andy has applied for a job at "Runway," America's most prestigious fashion journal; though Andy has little to no interest in the garment trade, they are one of the only magazines in New York with a job opening -- second assistant to editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). As Andy quickly learns, Miranda is a diva with plenty of power within the magazine business and she isn't afraid to use it, and though Andy lands the job (primarily by being in the right place at the right time), she soon learns that working for Miranda could test the patience of a saint thanks to her endless demands and refusal to acknowledge the end of a work day. Andy struggles to hold on to the job and her sanity, knowing that a recommendation from Miranda can open nearly any door at any magazine, but can she handle the pressure without losing her mind along the way? Up-and-coming movie star Vince (Adrian Grenier) has good reason to celebrate as Entoruage begins its third season: He has landed the title role in "Aquaman", a megabucks epic directed by Titanic's own James Cameron. Likewise luxuriating in Vince's good fortune are his pals Eric (Kevin Connolly and Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) and his actor brother Drama (Kevin Dillon). The only one not in a celebratory mood is Vince's agent Ari (Jerry Piven), who has been booted from his job at a powerful Hollywood talent agency and is now living a hand-to-mouth existence and working out of an office no bigger than a broom closet. For a while, it looks like Vince will also suffer from a stroke of bad luck when the LA opening of "Aquaman" is repeatedly interrupted by rolling power blackouts. This is the season that Vince adopts a new member of his entourage, an ex-convict named Dom (Domenick Lombardozzi), who promptly comes up with a plan to land Vince the role of a lifetime in the upcoming film "Medelin"--which, alas, would screw our hero out of starring in "Aquaman 2". Meanwhile, Turtle is managing pop singer Saigon and, as usual, is having trouble handling success. Drama is given a shot at TV stardom in his own series, "Five Towns". And after two years of delays, Vince and Eric's independent project "Queen's Boulevard" may finally see the light of day. Unfortunately, once again poor Ari is unable to capitalize on Vince's success, having managed to mess up a proposed film project for The Ramones and subsequently being replaced by new agent Amanda (Carla Gugino)--whose first assignment for Vince is a period drama based on the works of Edith Wharton, not exactly a brilliant career move for the star of "Aquaman." Ultimately, Ari resurfaces out of nowhere with financing for the temporarily-shelved "Medelin", but Vince isn't prepared for the sacrifice he must make to get this job. And while all this is going on, Turtle's fondness for limited-edition sneakers may completely alter the course of his life. Season Two of Entourage begins just after rising movie star Vince (Adrian Grenier) has returned to Hollywood from New York, where he has starred in "Queen's Boulevard",an independent project dreamed up by his best friend and manager Eric (Kevin Connolly). Quite full of himself at this point, Eric demands that he be given an "official title", which as it turns out has no official duties. Meanwhile, Vince's other best bud Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) continues to be a thorn in everyone's side, and Vince's actor brother Drama (Kevin Dillon) has started getting weird ideas about his body, going so far as to schedule himself for calf transplants. Back in Tinseltown, Vince's agent Ari (Jerry Piven) is trying to land his client the starring gig in an upcoming big-budget blockbuster, "Aquaman", to be directed by James Cameron (playing himself). In anticipation of this plum role, Vince begins spending money like a sailor again, but the deal may be queered when Billy Walsh (Rhys Coiro), temperamental director of "Queen's Boulevard", refuses to allow a pre-release screening of the film for Cameron's benefit. Inevitably, the cash flow is reduced to a trickle, forcing Vince to accept a foreign TV commercial and prompting Turtle to seek out a few quick bucks as an X-boxer. Ultimately, Cameron does cast Vince in "Aquaman"; now our hero must not only win over the millions of comic-book fans who are eagerly awaiting this epic, but must also charm his way into the heart of leading lady Mandy Moore--with whom he ends up falling hopelessly in love. Alas, Ari's chicanery at the talent agency causes him to lose his job. . .and where does that leave Vince? Like Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm, the HBO series Entourage offers a knowing and quasi-satirical inside look at the world of show business within a faux "documentary" format. Premiering July 18, 2004, the series (initially titled "Sundance Kids") top-billed Adrian Grenier as Vincent Chase, a young, wealthy, and very "hot" movie star. As Vincent's hard-working agent, Ari Gold (a character based on real-life agent Ari Emmanuel and here played by Jeremy Piven), tried to keep both his client and his client's career on the right track, Vincent tended to ignore Ari and pay more attention to three buddies from his old Queens neighborhood, who formed the "entourage" of the title. Vincent's stepbrother Johnny (Kevin Dillon), aka "Drama," made no secret of his intention to use Vincent's success to further his own acting career, while his pal Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) was content to parasitically luxuriate in Vincent's lavish lifestyle. Only his friend Eric (Kevin Connolly) seemed to like Vince for himself and not for what he could mooch off him -- and not surprisingly, Eric's advice and remonstrations were frequently ignored in favor of the sycophancy of Vince's other pals. A couple from the less fashionable side of New York learns the hard way about the nuts and bolts of staging a wedding in this broad comedy based on the long-running off-Broadway play. Tony (Joey McIntyre) and Tina (Mila Kunis) are a couple from Queens who have decided to take the big step and get married. However, while they have no qualms about matrimony, they're not so sure about their wedding -- Tina's mother (Priscilla Lopez), a widow, and Tony's dad (John Fiore), who split up with Tony's mother some time ago, used to be an item, and they've never gotten over their bitter breakup. As the two families try to put together a social event worthy of their children, the parents are constantly at one another's throat, and as the bride and groom deal with a priest who prefers to do the wedding his own way, a wedding singer who feels requests are beneath his dignity, a wildly eccentric photographer, a pack of brutally hung-over groomsmen, and some unhappy bridesmaids, Tony and Tina begin to wonder if their relationship can survive the wedding -- or if the antagonism of their parents is a sign of things to come. An actor and filmmaker meditates on the nature of parenthood as he searches for the father he's never known in this documentary. Best known for his work on the HBO series Entourage, Adrian Grenier grew up in New York City, raised by his single mother Karesse. Karesse rarely spoke of Adrian's father, and he knew little about him until he turned twenty-three and decided it was time he got closer to his dad. Karesse met Adrian's father during a period when she was living on a commune, and the child was the product of a relationship that was never meant to be long term. As Adrian follows a sketchy path to Ohio in search of his dad, he stops along the way to ask any number of people (including baseball fans attending a game at Yankee Stadium on Father's Day) about what fatherhood means to them, if one parent can really assume both roles in a child's development, and how this belated reunion could impact both men's lives. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Director and screenwriter James Toback used his own experiences as a college student in the 1960s as the basis for this drama about a present-day student athlete who's bitten off more than he can chew. Alan Jensen (Adrian Grenier) is a college sophomore struggling to keep up with an unusually busy schedule -- while studying philosophy as a Harvard undergrad, he's also a point guard on the school's basketball team, and is juggling two girlfriends, cheerleader Cindy Bandolini (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Chesney (Joey Lauren Adams), a professor ten years his senior. As Alan tries to stay on top of his classes and keep his love life sorted out, he receives some bad news from his parents -- a tornado has devastated their home, and they need $100,000 to rebuild. Alan wants to help his parents, and as it happens, Cindy's father is a Mafia boss tied in with a number of powerful bookies. Cindy uses her family's connection to put Alan in touch with Teddy (Eric Stoltz), a bookie who's willing to give Alan $100,000 in exchange for throwing a few games and shaving some points. Cindy also uses her dad's bankroll to place a quarter-million dollar bet on the upcoming Harvard-Dartmouth game, certain Alan can ensure a predictable outcome. But when the games don't go quite the way Alan expected, despite his best worst effort, he finds himself in dutch with the Mafia, while also attracting the attention of FBI agents who've been investigating Teddy and his associates. Amidst this chaos, Alan hops a jet home to give his parents the ill-gotten $100,000, and on the flight back decides to relax mid-flight by dropping a heroic dose of LSD, which turns out not to be one of his better ideas. Harvard Man was originally intended to star Leonardo DiCaprio as Alan, but after the project was put on hold in 1994, DiCaprio rocketed to fame in Titanic, which priced himself out of the project by the time James Toback was able to return to it years later. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
