This martial arts action film is about Tom, a man conned into joining the CIA and then forced into fighting against it when his ethics lead him to protect those connected with an exposé of the agency. Danny has written the exposé and when he is taken into custody by the CIA, Tom sees his partner kill off an innocent witness -- and decides to join forces with Danny's side. Higgins (John Hillerman "volunteers" Magnum (Tom Selleck) to act as bodyguard for "Sir Algernon Farnsworth", a disagreeable terrier owned by wealthy Gloria Marston (Kathleen Nolan). Though the last thing Magnum wants to be in the world is a dog-sitter, he agrees to the assignment in exhange for a year's free use of the tennis courts at a ritzy private club. But he may not live long enough to enjoy this perk: the dog's previous owner, an ill-tempered gangster named DiGiorgio (Michael Gazzo), is determined to reclaim the mutt--even if he has to kill a few people to meet his goal. Quincy (Jack Klugman) performs an autopsy on a high school gymnast who has died of cerebral hemorrhage. Finding evidence of amphetamines and other stimulants, Quincy suspects that the gymnast was supplied with drugs by her "win-at-all-costs" athletic coach. The challenge now is to prove his suspicions and risk public censure by bringing the very popular coach to justice. An intelligence agent finds that he has become one of the hunted in this action-suspense drama. Tom (Max Thayer) is a CIA operative who is sent out to track down a former mercenary for questioning. After Tom's partner brutally beats the soldier-for-hire and an innocent bystander is shot, Tom learns the truth about his assignment -- the mercenary frequently worked for the CIA and has written a book exposing corruption within the organization which the Agency wants stopped. With the mercenary severely injured during the beating, Tom teams up with the man's sister, Janice (Shawn Hoskins), to help expose the truth about the CIA, but now they have to steer clear of the Retrievers, a secret intelligence organization set up to stamp out those whom the agency wants silenced. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
