This zany, madcap farce from Dutch director Tim Oliehoek stars funnyman Paul de Leeuw in a double role: he plays twin brothers Bruno von Lippe - a psychopathic terrorist with destructive plans for Europe - and flamboyantly homosexual fashion designer François van Vilet. François assumes heroic stature by vowing to set forth and free Europe from Bruno's evil, iron-fisted grip. Unfortunately, François destroys almost everything in his path through sheer klutziness, making him every bit as destructive and dangerous as his twin. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

A family of Dutch hicks goes to Manhattan with hilarious results in this sophomoric Dutch comedy that is the sequel to the 1986 Dutch smash "Flodder." The Flodder family has just received word that they will be going to New York City as part of an international family exchange between the Netherlands and the USA. Havoc ensues as they are immediately mistaken for a Russian delegation at the airport. They are placed in the Plaza Hotel and proceed to trash the place. Later they agree to redecorate a nightclub in Dutch style. Also, the president's son falls in love with the Flodder's daughter who as become a stripper at the nightclub. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

In this somewhat bizarre and humorous drama, schoolboy Hans (Koen de Bouw) had plans to go to university, but after a recent setback to the family's fortunes, he and his father join forces to support the family, taking jobs as garbage collectors. Hans has all kinds of ideas about how to improve the management of the system, but his bosses don't take kindly to his views, so he winds up unemployed. Meanwhile, his father (Jim van der Woude) has taken ill, and only a risky and expensive operation which the state medical system will not pay for can give him back the use of his legs. Hans gets a job at a hospital, steals medical supplies, and studies how to perform the operation using birds and stray dogs to practice on. He then performs the surgery on his dad at home. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

Welcome to The Beverly Hillbillies, Dutch style. Nelly Frijda, Rene Van't Kof, Tatjana Sinic and Huub Stapel star as the low-rent, low-class Flodder family. Through a miracle of scripting, the Flodders move to a prosperous neighborhood. The resulting comedy highlights are all predicated on the old culture-clash gimmick. Flodder was popular enough to inspire two movie sequels (one of them tantalizingly titled Flodders in America), as well as a Dutch TV series, which ran from 1993 to 1995. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

A well-wrought sequel to the popular Schatjes, Mama Is Boos! draws on the same styles and themes that inspired the success of the earlier comedy. The all-out war between the parents and their children in Schatjes has become an all-out war declared by Danny Gisberts (Geert de Jong) against her two-timing, fickle husband John (Peter Faber). She throws objects as well as tantrums, is not above kidnapping her kids, and has a final, glorious say about what she thinks of him at a NATO gathering featuring her husband. NATO's stage entertainment is cleverly sub-par, but that cannot be said for this comedy, which is fast-paced and fun. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Housewife Edda Barends, waitress Nelly Frijda and secretary Henriette Tol have but one thing in common: murder. Acting virtually on impulse, the three women kill a male store owner who has caught Barends shoplifting. Psychiatrist Cox Habbema is engaged to prove that the women are insane so that they can avoid being sent to prison. A few sessions later, however, Habbema has cast her lot with the killers! The moral seems to be that murder is justified so long as it stems from dissatisfaction with the entire Male population. One would think that Question of Silence (originally released in the Netherlands as De Stilte Rond Christine M...) would be rejected out of hand by the largely male Dutch Film Finance Corporation. Instead, the Corporation was so enthusiastic over writer/director Marleen Gorris' project proposal that it put up all the production money. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This erotic variation on La Ronde was filmed in the Netherlands. As indicated by the title, the hero has a very healthy sex life. Sometimes he even double-dates. And triple-dates. And quadruple-dates. In short, his conjugal bed threatens collapse. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
