Though he would set the screen ablaze with his role as Iceman (aka Bobby Drake) in director Bryan Singer's X2, teen actor Shawn Ashmore has been appearing frequently in film since his cinematic debut in the 1991 comedy drama Married to It. Born one-minute after twin brother Aaron in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, in October of 1979, Ashmore was raised in Toronto, British Columbia, and Alberta, where he would attend primary school at Leo Nickerson Elementary before heading to Turner Fenton High School in Brampton, Ontario. His mother's association with the Multiple Birth Association eventually led to a career in front of the camera for both Shawn and brother Aaron, and before long the siblings were appearing in numerous television commercials. Following his debut in Married to It, Ashmore would go on to meatier roles in such made-for-television features as Guitarman (1994) and Promise the Moon (1997), often joking that casting agents would have to flip a coin to chose between himself and his brother. As his career continued to build momentum with roles in such features as Strike! (1998) and on television's Animorphs, Ashmore was elated to find that he had been cast in a minor, albeit pivotal role in 2000's X-Men. Ashmore gained even more exposure with his subsequent role on The Disney Channel series In a Hearbeat. Always dedicated to making his performances as convincing as possible, Ashmore attended military school and received voice lessons for three months while preparing for his role in the 2002 made-for-television feature Cadet Kelly. Likewise, Ashmore's preparation for his continuing role as Iceman in X2 included a strict, six-month physical training regiment in addition to a restrictive diet in which he was allowed to consume no alcohol. A ranching movie set in Western (Canada) during the 1920s. The story line is a little unusual: A ranch foreman makes a promise to his boss to fetch the ranch-owner's son, who has been boarded since birth in a distant large city. He travels there, only to find out that the boy, now a young adult, has spent his entire life in an insane asylum. He takes him (and his Native-American nanny) back to the ranch, only to find his boss has died and the bank is trying to take over the property. Just prior to his death, the ranch owner had signed a paper leaving the guardianship of his son and the fate of his ranch in the hands of the foreman, leaving nothing to his conniving and jealous brother. This story is about fending off the bank through mounting a successful cattle drive, teaching the hearing-impaired rancher's son (and new owner) about ranch life, and coming to terms with a young woman who is not afraid to speak her mind. Mix all of this with plenty of dirty tricks by the banking crowd and the brother and you have the standard recipe for overcoming hard odds, falling in love, and attempting to save the ranch. One of the most controversial (and widely-reported) stories of the early 1990s is vividly dramatized in this made-for-cable movie. In 1992, Allen Schindler, a navy sailor serving on the USS Belleau Wood, is savagely beaten to death while on leave in Japan. Allen's grieving mother Dorothy Hajdys-Holman (Bonnie Bedelia) becomes even more distraught when the representatives of the United States Navy refuse to provide her with full details on her son's murder. Then comes the ultimate shock: A newspaper reporter informs Dorothy that her son was gay, and that this might have been the reason he was killed. But if the Navy has anything to say about it, the entire matter will be swept under the rug, with Dorothy remaining as much in the dark as the rest of the world: A deal has already been cut with one of Allen's killers, who after a secret court-martial is given what amounts to a legal slap on the wrist. Radicalized by the incident and its aftermath, Dorothy joins forces with a crusading journalist to force the Navy to reveal the whole truth--and she isn't about to let the court-martial of Allen's other assailant to be conducted behind closed doors! The upshot of this high-profile case was the creation of the Service Members' Legal Defense Network, assuring that no branch of the armed services would ever again be able to conspire to cover up a major crime. Habitually abused by her arrogant surgeon husband Thomas (Stephen Lang), successful realtor Elizabeth Cooper (Joanna Kerns) has decided to get a divorce. Shortly after this decision, Elizabeth is in conference with a new client, John Davis (Tim Matheson)--who stops her short by announcing that he is a "hit man", hired by Thomas to murder Elizabeth. But after meeting his potential victim, John has had a change of heart, and is now determined to rescue her from her husband. Togther, John and Elizabeth formulate a plan: She will disappear, he will arrange the evidence to make it seem as if he's killed her, and then he'll trap Thomas into a confession. Although she hates the idea of being so long separated from her beloved children, Elizabeth agrees to the scheme. That things don't go off precisely as intended should at this point be a foregone conclusion. This television series follows the adventures of four teenagers who in their spare time help to serve their community as volunteer emergency medical technicians (EMT's). Hank (Danso Gordon), the son of a successful surgeon, is eager to prove that he has talents of his own. Jamie (Christopher Ralph) is a boy with a checkered past who is under court order to perform community service, which he approaches with a certain reluctance, but also an awareness that this may be his last chance to turn his life around. Val (Reagan Pasternak) is a bright, ambitious girl who wants to be a doctor someday. And Tyler (Shawn Ashmore) uses a cheerful disposition and enthusiastic attitude to camouflage the fact that he doesn't get along with his family. As the four youngsters balance school and their responsibilities as EMT's, they also have to deal with the trials and tribulations of growing up, and Val has to contend with her cynical friend Caitie (Jackie Rosenbaum) and her overly ambitious little sister Brooke (Lauren Collins). It is a strange conglomeration of humanity that is trapped together during a power outage in a suburban shopping mall. Among the "prisoners" are single mom/law student Kathy Robbins (Jane Seymour), her son Eric (Corin Nemec), and her daughter Blair (Alexandra Picatto). Fifteen-year-old Blair in particular has a lot to worry about when she is stalked by an unidentified psycho, who has armed himself in an abandoned sporting-goods store. By the time the audience is apprised of the identity of the would-be murderer, it is painfully obvious that Blackout can hardly be construed as "Family Fare." Two of the Disney Channel's brightest young sitcom stars, Hilary Duff (Lizzie Maguire) and Christy Romano (Even Stevens), team up for laughs and tears in the made-for-cable Cadet Kelly. The life of cool, artistically inclined 14-year-old Kelly Collins (Duff) is turned upside down when she is uprooted from Manhattan and whisked off to the campus of George Washington Military School in upstate New York. The move was instigated by Sir (Gary Cole), a retired general and the new husband of Kelly's mother. Hoping to impress her stepfather, Kelly enlists in the school, where her freewheeling eccentricities immediately run afoul of her hard-hearted, 17-year-old squad leader, Jennifer Stone (Romano). Though Kelly does her best, the pressure brought to bear upon her by military protocol is enough to have her contemplating desertion -- and even her growing fondness for upper classman, Brad (Shawn Ashmore), may not be enough to bring her back. A withdrawn, deaf, and mute teen adopted by her godparents following the death of her single father finds that life in her dysfunctional new home can be quite deadly in But I'm a Cheerleader director Jamie Babbit's slick and tense teen thriller. The last word Dot (Camilla Belle) ever spoke was when her mother died at the age of seven. Subsequently thrust into a world of silence as a result of her catastrophic loss, Dot lives in a world of withdrawn solitude. When the death of her father renders the muted teen both homeless and orphaned, her suburban godparents, Paul (Martin Donovan) and Olivia Deer (Edie Falco) readily agree to take Dot in and ensure that she has a place to stay as she finishes her high-school education. All is not well in the Deer household, however, and after being rejected and ridiculed by the couple's teenage daughter, Nina (Elisha Cuthbert), Dot soon becomes something of a human confessional to the troubled souls that surround her. Three stories, which offer differing perspectives on the AIDS pandemic, are featured in this anthology-drama. Sister Clara (Chloë Sevigny) is a young nun who is working with two, more experienced, missionaries (Olympia Dukakis and Sandra Oh) in a village along the African coast. Sister Clara finds herself struggling against ignorance and misinformation among the natives, but discovers she can only accomplish so much through traditional means and is forced to make a great personal sacrifice for the greater good. Denny (Shawn Ashmore) lives in Montreal and makes his living acting in pornographic movies -- a career he's kept hidden from his mother (Stockard Channing), who depends on Denny for financial support. Like most of his colleagues, Denny must present current HIV tests to producers in order to keep working. But unlike most of his fellow porn actors, Denny is actually carrying the AIDS virus, and presents fraudulent test paperwork in order to keep working. And Jin Ping (Lucy Liu) collects blood donations from villagers in mainland China, but while she claims that the blood will be used in government hospitals, Jin Ping is actually in cahoots with illegal private doctors, and she fails to use proper methods for safe blood collection. When Tong Sam (Tanabadee Chokpikultong) loses nearly all of his friends, family, and villagers to AIDS, he takes it upon himself to do something about Jin Ping and her reckless actions.
