A heated game that pits men against women turns a civil get-together into an all-out warzone in this battle of the sexes comedy directed by Ibrahim Yilla. Once a month, Tosha Landry (Tichina Arnold) and her husband host a laid-back gathering for their diverse group of friends. This month, Tosha is in the midst of working on her research paper. In order to complete it, she devises a little game to be played by the couples. Meanwhile, as the competition turns fierce, the dividing line between the genders becomes too clear to ignore, and relationships are put to the ultimate test. Richard T. Jones and Golden Brooks co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

An unconnected group of people find themselves drawn together at a haunted attraction on the side of a highway, only to realize that the very gates of hell await them inside. For years, Jerrod (Jude Hickey) has been haunted by nightmares that pit him against a group of hooded figures that chase him to death himself, which might just yet come true when he discovers the Necrophobia: Museum of the Demented and the Damned. At the same time, a young woman plans to search the bowels of the same attraction for her lost nephew just as two drunken DJs are about to do a live remote show inside the building for their radio station. As the group makes its way inside, all hell breaks loose in this low-budget horror flick full of chain saws, blood, gas masks, and plenty more lunacy from Texas' own Odyssee Pictures. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi

Less lurid than its title suggests, this made-for-TV movie was based on the true story of the trials and tribulations of three generations of New Orleans prostitutes. Ellen Burstyn stars as Tommie, matriarch of the "working girl" family which operates out of a brothel in an otherwise quiet, respectable neighborhood. Tommie is the domineering boss of her daughter Jeanette (Annabella Sciorra), who had followed in mom's footsteps (so to speak) because she had no alternative. Conversely, Jeannette's daughter Monica (Dominique Swain) is showing signs of rebellion, hoping to break free from her grandmother's grasp for the sake of her own daughter Navaeh. The family's internal squabbles are played against a backdrop of federal intrigue, as the FBI works overtime to nail Tommie and her family on charges of racketeering and drug trafficking. But just when it looks like the jig is up thanks to the testimony of a local doctor, Tommie saves herself by threatening to reveal a few unsavory secrets about a few highly placed male individuals. The real-life Jeannette Maier acted as the film's technical advisor, insisting in press releases that she and her mother ran a "clean, tight, business" and that the FBI's charges were so much applesauce (it is clear where the filmmakers' sympathies lie in those scenes wherein the Feds are shown wiretapping the ladies' business when they should be concentrating on capturing the terrorist perpetrators of 9/11). The Madam's Family debuted October 31, 2004 on CBS. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Greg Carter made this low-budget look at life in a Houston inner-city neighborhood where the brother of convenience-store clerk James (Kory Washington) is murdered. With gangster Bam (Creepa) supplying guns, James has an opportunity to get revenge, but he's unwilling to kill. Instead, he hangs out with his Vietnamese girlfriend, Haan (Junie Hoang), the daughter of the store's owners, and he also pals around with his buddy Rip (Lee Carter). Tensions erupt when James defends his mother (Donna Wilkerson) and younger brother (JaCorrey Lovelady) from the violent actions of his mother's menacing boyfriend (Thomas Miles). Shown at the SXSW Film Festival (Austin). ~ Bhob Stewart, Rovi
