A buddy movie in the tradition of Wayne's World and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Doppelpack introduces viewers to erstwhile pals Hoffi (Markus Kneufken) and Lehmi (Eckhard Preuss, who also co-wrote the movie) waking up in Dortmund Zoo after an all-night booze orgy. Following a hearty breakfast, the extroverted Hoffi and laconic Lehmi find a crate of beer and take to roaming the streets in a vague mission to find a birthday present for Hoffi's sister. Along the way, Lehmi becomes enamored of a barmaid (Margret Voelker), and Hoffi falls for a picture of a comely girl (Jeanne Tremsal) he finds in a photo booth. Later in the day they find the latter working in a retail store and Hoffi begins pursuing her; the three subsequently go to a club, where Lehmi becomes reacquainted with his barmaid. ~ Rebecca Flint Marx, All Movie Guide

This tense German drama concerns Jan (Steffan Wink), a law student who works in his spare time as an assistant for a judge. One night, he tells his girlfriend Christine (Jule Ronstedt) that he no longer loves her and storms out, ending up in a park. He hears a woman scream and moments later discovers a corpse in the bushes. Jan immediately tries to call the police, but he's interrupted by a man named Tony (Fatih Akin) who is panicky, covered in blood, insists he can explain everything -- and will kill himself if Jan doesn't give him five minutes to tell his side of the story. Jan ends up spending most of the night listening to Tony's convoluted story as he's guided from one part of the city to another. Meanwhile, Christine hits the streets looking for Jan and is given a ride by Kraus (Axel Milberg), a middle-aged man who isn't happy with his marriage and is looking for love (or whatever is available) from Christine. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

"Cascadeur" is the French term for a film action coordinator, which actor-producer Hardy Martins did on German films for a decade, also training for 24 months at the Los Angeles International Stunt Association, before directing this $4 million German action-adventure in the Indiana Jones tradition. In Caracas, art-history student Christin (Regula Grauwiller) tracks a dying Nazi, acquires a unique key that leads to the Amber Room and a $150 million treasure stolen from Leningrad by the Nazis during WWII. Captured by a German intelligence Colonel (Heiner Lauterbach) during a Caracas chase, Christin is sent on a plane to Bavaria but escapes in a parachute, landing near former stuntman Vincent (Hardy Martins). Tracked by the Colonel's men, Vincent and Christin set out across Bavaria to find the Amber Room. Shown at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide
