Gregory Coolidge Movies

Born December 28, 1972, in Redbank, NJ, the up-and-coming writer/director Greg Coolidge made his first official foray into showbiz when he worked as associate producer on J. Max Burnett's 1998 sports drama Possums (with country singer and Will Rogers Follies star Mac Davis in a central role). In the picture, Davis (fresh from a string of direct-to-video duds that followed 1980's Cheaper to Keep Her and 1983's The Sting II) plays a local hardware store owner who attempts to resuscitate the local team of has-beens by broadcasting imaginary games. Few individuals saw the picture, which received extremely limited release in spring 1999; those who did responded more or less negatively. Coolidge's career continued unabated, however. He wrote the script of Wally Wolodarsky's 2002 comedy Sorority Boys, a gender-bending comedy about a bunch of geeky fraternity members who go undercover (in drag) and join a sorority to obtain revenge on the coeds who wronged them. Touchstone Pictures issued the spring 2002 release as a first-run feature; even as most critics panned it, it performed reasonably well at the box office and paved the way for 2006's Employee of the Month. The effort not only marked Coolidge's highest-profile endeavor to date, but his first turn in the director's chair. Pop diva, tabloid mainstay, and reality-TV celebrity Jessica Simpson stars as Amy, the newest cashier at a discount super mart who sparks a hot rivalry between two male clerks, played by Dane Cook and Dax Shepard. Produced by Tapestry Films and Lionsgate, the film was released in September 2006. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

When a pair of ultra-competitive clerks at a discount super store discovers that a beautiful, newly-transferred cashier has a reputation for only dating employees who have won the coveted Employee of the Month award, their desperate efforts to earn the title and get the girl lead to a hilarious war of one-upmanship in this winner-takes-all comedy starring Dane Cook, Jessica Simpson, and Dax Shepard. Zack Bradley (Cook) and Vince Downey (Shepard) have been working at the cavernous Super Club for ten years and counting, but while the ambitious Vince has advanced to the position of head cashier and landed 17 consecutive "E of M" awards, laid-back Zack is content to simply sit back and enjoy the company of his fellow box boys. Longtime rivals whose conflicting attitudes as to what constitutes success has led to more than a few conflicts, Vince and Zack find their bitter battle for Super Club supremacy coming to a head when attractive new employee Amy (Simpson) transfers over from another store. When word quickly spreads that Amy only has eyes for the cream of the crop, slacker Zack attempts to clean up his act and break free from his box boy roots while uptight Vince tries to impress by maintaining his top dog position and keep cool in the face of competition. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

J. Max Burnett made his directorial debut with this family drama about a small-town sports announcer and a high school football team, the Possums. In the dying town of Nowata, Oklahoma, the giant retail Maxi Mart threatens to destroy the local hardware store run by Will Clark (Mac Davis), a lifelong Possums supporter. Life in Nowata is such that mayor Charlie Lawton (Andrew Prine) is on the brink of cancelling the school sports program. To save the Possums, Will goes on the air at the local radio station, fabricating fantastic Possum plays that never happened. In these imaginary games, the phenomenal fantasy team goes on a winning streak and is headed toward the finals. Ignoring the reactions of his wife Elizabeth (Cynthia Sikes) and others, Will soon has the support of the locals. As the Possums peak, the legit champions in neighboring Pratville are not pleased -- and the final showdown happens in a gridiron confrontation. Shown to an enthusiastic audience at the 1998 Seattle Film Festival. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide

The time-honored "men in drag" concept gets a teen sex comedy makeover with this farce from director Wallace Wolodarsky. Dave (Barry Watson), Adam (Michael Rosenbaum), and Doofer (Harland Williams) are a trio of broke playboy misogynists who are accused of embezzlement by their frat brothers and kicked out. The friends quickly find themselves with only one option if they wish to remain on campus rent-free and nab the real culprits: the sorority known as Delta Omicron Gamma (D.O.G.), an institution widely known for its members' deficiency of physical beauty. After undergoing radical transformations thanks to wigs, makeup, and some serious depilatory efforts, the boys are soon passing themselves off as Daisy, Adena, and Roberta. It's not long before their past mistreatment of women has come back to haunt them, while Dave falls in love with Leah (Melissa Sagemiller), the head of the sorority, forcing him to consider when and where to confess the truth. In the meantime, the boys draw closer to learning the identity of the real thieves. Sorority Boys (2002) co-stars Heather Matarazzo. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide
