The greatest magician in the world isn't about to let a little thing like being over 1,500 years old stop him from saving England in this comic adventure. Miss Maxwell (Tia Carrere), an unscrupulous scientist from the United States, has arrived in England with a plan to use the manipulation of magnetic fields to bring evil sorcerer Mordred (Craig Sheffer) back from the dead and into the present day. Hoping to stop Maxwell's scheme before it's too late, the ancient magician Merlin (Rik Mayall) comes to the rescue; however, he's a bit too old to handle the job all by himself, and Merlin is forced to enlist the help of some friends from his salad days -- King Arthur (Patrick Bergin), Sir Lancelot (Adrian Paul), and Guinevere (Julie Hartley). Though set in rural England, Merlin: The Return was actually filmed in South Africa. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Following in the tradition of his 1995 film Grim, in which England's Clearwell Caves doubled for Virginia, Paul Matthews' Breeders has England double for a Boston girls' school. The plot concerns a meteor that holds an alien monster (rendered in 3-D on the garish video box), a slinky alien woman (Kadamba Simmons), and a bunch of shattered crystals. The crystals end up as necklaces around the necks of several students, who get possessed and go to the sewers beneath the school where they are encased in cocoons so they can bear the monster's children. In a morally dubious development, the hero is a professor (Todd Jensen) who is sleeping with one of his students (Samantha Janus). The same basic story was shot under the same title in 1986 by Tim Kincaid. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

Corbin Bernsen and Malcolm McDowell star in an enchanting tale of fairies and giants that the whole family will enjoy. Now grandmother is gone, and the siblings are surprised to discover that they have inherited a decrepit gold mine and a family home they never even knew existed. Upon discovering that grandmother's far fetched stories have a bizarre basis in reality and that by freeing the fairies from the mine they will discover a cure for their terminally ill father (Bernsen), Kyle and Evie race against time to free the trapped fairies and save their father's life. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
