Charlotte Church Movies
A remarkable songstress who thrilled audiences worldwide by age 14 with a double-platinum album,
Charlotte Church has become one of the most popular and highest-paid celebrities in the U.K., even commanding standing ovations from royalty. After performing the soprano vocals for
A Beautiful Mind,
Church seemed poised for a Hollywood career with her cinematic debut in
I'll be There (2003).
Born in Llandaff, Cardiff, Wales, on February 21, 1986,
Church's talent for song was realized at the age of three when the honey-voiced youth refused to exit the stage after singing the theme from
Ghostbusters with her cousin at summer camp. Subsequently becoming a staple of local karaoke competitions,
Church's breakthrough came when, on a lark, the talented youngster phoned in to The Richard and Judy Show and floored the hosts with a soaring rendition of "Pie Jesu." Since her parents were divorced and her mother was out of the house when the fateful phone call was made,
Church's mother and father were the last to know about her subsequent invitation to perform live on the popular program.
Church became an overnight sensation in Wales following another television performance on The Big Big Talent Show, going on to perform at the London Palladium, Cardiff Arms Park, and the Royal Albert Hall. While still a student at the exclusive all girls' school Howell's,
Church and vocal coach Louise Ryan began to prepare for
Church's debut album, Voice of an Angel. As with many singers of her generation, it wasn't long before Hollywood began calling, and with I'll Be There the singer with a heavenly voice was poised to make her cinematic debut. Starring in the comedy about an aging pop star who discovers the talented daughter he never knew,
Church fortunately was able to showcase her talent for song in the film. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A literal interpretation of the oft-produced biography of 15th century historical heroine Joan d'Arc, this four-hour television miniseries version of Joan's story is lavishly produced. In a tiny village during the Hundred Years' War, teenager Joan d'Arc (Leelee Sobieski) has been raised by her parents, flinty Peter (Powers Boothe) and Isabelle (Jacqueline Bisset), amidst the wreckage continually wrought by British incursions into the area. A devout girl, Joan experiences visions of St. Catherine, which lead her to believe that she may be the "Maid of Orleans," a mythical figure who will lead France to victory over its enemies. Counseled by local priest Father Monet (Robert Loggia), Joan pursues her destiny in spite of her father's wishes. At first supported only by lowly commoners, Joan comes to the attention of the Dauphin, King Charles (Neil Patrick Harris). Together with his scheming advisor Bishop Cauchon (Emmy-winner Peter O'Toole), Charles uses Joan to unite his quarreling factions. Skeptical but superstitious, Charles' generals, including La Hire (Peter Strauss) are eventually won over by Joan's startling victories. But awaiting Joan is a disastrous Parisian campaign and Charles' betrayal. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

In this episode, we learn that Monica (Roma Downey) has always wanted to be a singer, but her voice is so hideous that she was kicked out of the Heavenly Choir eons ago. Thus when she is assigned to straighten out the life of Alice (Charlotte Church), a 13-year-old girl who possesses a exquisite singing voice, Monica is consumed by jealousy. What really sticks in our heroine's craw is the fact that Alice is nasty, rude, and totally unappreciative of her special gift. As a result, Monica turns the assignment down flat--and gets herself in hot water with her Higher-Ups. Appearing in this episode as a motley crew of street performers is 'N Sync. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
