Initially telecast September 9, 1978, A Double Life was the pilot film for the weekly TV series Sword of Justice. Dack Rambo stars as Jeff Cole, who has just spent three years in prison after being framed on an embezzlement charge. Swearing vengeance against the actual crook -- who was also responsible for his father's death -- Cole devotes his post-prison life to bringing to justice criminals beyond the reach of the life. Having learned a great deal about such underhanded activities as electronic bugging and lock-picking while in stir, Cole utilizes these talents for good rather than evil (shades of It Takes a Thief--and no wonder, since Glen A. Larson produced both series). Aiding Cole in his mission is his ex-cellmate Hector Ramirez (Bert Rosario), while federal agent Arthur Woods (Alex Courtney) spends most of his time trying to second-guess the elusive hero. Cliff Robertson wrote, produced, directed and acted the lead in this film about a rodeo performer. The rodeo footage in this film was shot at actual rodeo competitions. Rodeo rider J.W. Coop (Robertson) has just spent ten years in jail for passing bad checks. He comes out and discovers that everything except his crazy mother (Geraldine Page) has changed. Riders don't compete in all-around events anymore, but fly all over the country in private planes to compete in the same event in several rodeos a day. Furthermore, the sexual liberation movement has changed the way women relate to men. He is nonplused to discover a hippyish woman (Cristina Ferrare) who wants a no-strings relationship with him. The idea of health food catches him by surprise, too. Coop wants and needs to win a national rodeo championship, despite all the new challenges he faces. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

This situation comedy comes from a Bob Fisher and Arthur Marx play. Jonathan Kingsley (David Niven) is the teaching psychiatrist at the local university and is happily married to his wife Alice (Lola Albright). The couple has two teenage daughters, and the trouble begins when the oldest daughter Linda (Christina Ferrare) begins to take an adult interest in boys. Her misadventures corrupt her impressionable sister Abbey (Darlene Carr) and is driving the head of the university, Dean Rockwell (John Harding), absolutely crazy as he fears a scandal that could blight the school. Jonathan is put under review by the board of directors. Linda falls for Jonathan's teaching assistant Richard (Chad Everett) as her father receives neighborly advise from Dr. Fleischer (Ozzie Nelson), a hopeless hypochondriac. Linda is also pursued by a spaced-out hippie (Jeff Cooper) and another admirer (Michael McGreevey). Jonathan tries to stop his daughter's lustful yearnings before the reputation of the university and his family become fodder for the local gossip mongers.
