Simone (Jimmy Smits) pulls in hoodlum Jimmy Liery (Christopher Meloni) when neighbors complain about gunfire. Jimmy is allowed to walk -- but he doesn't get far, and Diane (Kim Delaney) is upset at Liery's ultimate fate. Elsewhere, Martinez (Nicholas Turturro) takes a troublesome kid (Javier Núñez) under his wing; Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) blames Fancy (James McDaniel) when he is passed over for promotion; and an artist (Michael David Lally) reluctantly agrees to wear a wire in order to trap a group of murderous mobsters. In the opening episode of ER's third season, Benton (Eriq La Salle) and Jeanie (Gloria Reuben) get the results of their HIV tests, forcing Jeanie to make a difficult decision. Carter's inaugural assignment as a first-year intern is to temporarily replace Benton as ER surgical consultant; Carter (Noah Wyle) also finds time to befriend another first-year man, Dr. Dennis Gant (Omar Epps). Having been promoted to full-time attending physician (and, incidentally, full-time ER regular), Weaver (Laura Innes) is more insufferable than ever. And God Spoke is an occasionally gut-funny spoof of low-budget moviemaking. Producer Steve Rappaport and director Michael Riley have been given carte blanche to make a multimillion-dollar epic based on the Old Testament. One day into production, they blow their budget and are forced to cut corners with a scythe. Rappaport and Riley must now scout about for cheap locations in the LA area, and make do with whatever stars they can afford. The funniest sequences involve Soupy Sales, who has been cast as Moses, crepe beard and all. Lou Ferrigno, Eve Plumb, and film critic Michael Medved (co-author of The 50 Worst Movies of All Time) also have significant cameos in this likeable effort. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
