Jeanie (Gloria Reuben) finds her faith renewed as she cares for Rev. Matthew Lynn (Roscoe Lee Browne). Lucy (Kellie Martin) discovers that her young patient has been overmedicated. Carter (Noah Wyle) mentors a teenager named Antoine Bell (Corey Parker Robinson). And Romano (Paul McCrane) forces Benton (Eriq La Salle) into a crucial decision. Tom Kale (Joe Reynolds) works as a security guard at a motel, where he wiles away his significant amount of free time talking with desk clerk Gordon (John Durbin) and engaging in a furtive affair with housekeeper Diane (Suzanne Carney), despite the fact she's married. A not-entirely-welcome interruption of this routine occurs when Tom's brother Derek (Jay Underwood) and his girlfriend Carmen (Margot Demeter) arrive for a visit. There's a bit of tension between the two brothers; Carmen was Tom's sweetheart until she left him for Derek, and while Tom works on the low rungs of law enforcement, Derek and Carmen support themselves by knocking over convenience stores. As it turns out, Derek and Carmen are mixing business with leisure with their visit; they intend to rip off the motel's safe and want to know if Tom is interested in helping. Dead Dogs was the feature-film debut for director Clay Eide; it received enthusiastic reviews and the American Independent Award after its screening at the 1999 Seattle Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Based on a true story and originally aired as a Lifetime Original Movie, this moving drama zeroes in on a family that is nearly torn apart when the 15-year-old daughter announces her pregnancy. Each person in the clan reacts differently to Tina's predicament. Mother suggests that children shouldn't have children. Tina disagrees and insists on keeping the baby. Her father, already upset by other issues, moves out. Tina's little sister finds herself increasingly ignored and resentful. Meanwhile, at school, Tina's friends drift away as her tummy gets bigger, and though her boyfriend at first promised to be supportive, he then chickened out. Forced to attend a special class for unwed mothers, she meets several others in her situation. Her biggest help during her pregnancy is her 19-year-old friend Laurie who had her baby two years before. But while supportive, Laurie also shows Tina how difficult and exhausting, single motherhood can be. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
