The local economy in his small town threatened by the arrival of a massive new shopping center, a 12-year-old boy attempts to save his family home by hunting for lost treasure with his mischievous golden retriever Marley, and a young girl who isn't afraid of a big challenge. Josh Peters was having the perfect summer until he learned that his family could soon lose their home. A new shopping center is about to be constructed, and it's sure to drive his father's store straight into the ground. Is there any hope for keeping their small town alive? Legend has it that the Conquistadors once left a sizable treasure in the area, and when Marley digs up a golden medallion with a map to the riches, Josh and spunky town newcomer Ana set out to recover the gold and save their town. But the kids aren't the only one with visions of gold coins spinning in their heads, because dimwitted fugitives Wade and Scarecrow are determined to claim the treasure first. This Australian giant-crocodile film from director James D.R. Hickox borrows shamelessly from Jaws, Jurassic Park, and even the American Godzilla. Two surfers (Dax Miller, Matt Borlenghi), a female videographer (Katie Fischer), and a smarmy promoter (Joel West) come to the South Seas (gorgeously photographed by cinematographer Christopher C. Pearson) in order to shoot a video of "blood surfing," which basically means surfing with a great number of hungry sharks in the water. They survive the sharks, but when one of the toothy fish literally explodes in a geyser of gore, it becomes apparent that there is something far more dangerous lurking beneath the beautiful blue waves. The characters are chased through the water and the jungle and abducted by crazed locals with machine guns before finally coming face to face with the monstrous giant crocodile intent on making meals of them. There's also the requisite subplot involving a crusty former sea captain (Duncan Regehr) with a vendetta against the beast (which he doesn't live to settle), as well as vine-swinging, plenty of sex and gore, and one of the absolute worst puns of all time. With no more rural Midwestern adults left to slaughter, two brothers from Gatling, Nebraska are sent to foster homes in the Windy City. The little brother, who murdered his own father, is a disciple of the dreaded "He Who Walks Behind the Rows" and has brought a few corn seeds with him so his evil mentor will have a place to stay. The seeds grow and soon the demon is harvesting a fresh crop of recruits to do his murderous bidding. Though based on a novel and film by Stephen King, the author had nothing to do with this sequel.
