Jon Reiss made his feature directorial debut with this psychological drama. In Los Angeles, Hallie (Bitty Schram) keeps her photographer husband Robert (Paul Hipp) under her thumb, dictating sex on demand. She ignores Robert's weak protests when she allows friends of friends to occupy their house during their upstate New York vacation. Back in L.A., they find the couple let their fish die amid a messy house. Nevertheless, since inconsiderate Zack (Boyd Kestner) and sexy Sophie (Rhada Mitchell) haven't made much of an effort to find a place of their own, Hallie and Robert let them stick around -- despite the couple's crude manners and loud sex sessions. However, when Hallie sees Robert has fallen for Sophie, she explodes and exits. A few minutes later, Sophie also splits. Echoes of Harold Pinter's The Servant (1963) reverb and demented behavior rises to the surface as the two men then struggle for dominance. Reiss claims he found the premise for this script from a real-life incident when he loaned his house to filmmaker Amos Poe and came back some weeks later to find the fish dead. Making great fun of the '70s, this lively sci-fi comedy centers on a trio of time travellers who go into the past in hopes of retrieving the Constitution to celebrate America's 300th birthday. Mike Jittlov, a master of special effects who's strutted his stuff in several short films, is both the director and star of The Wizard of Speed and Time. Jittlov plays himself, an eager-beaver director who offers a reel of special effects to a TV producer. The director makes a huge bet to the producer that he, Jittlov, can expand his reel into a fantastic feature film. Unfortunately, he's out of money, so Jittlov is obliged, Rocky style, to employ friends and family for his epic. In the picture-within-a-picture, Jittlov plays a second role, as the Wizard of Speed and Time (from the movie of the same name). The producer sends out some hired goons to prevent Jittlov from finishing his job, but our hero--both of him--emerges triumphant. Adding to the Pirandellian quality of The Wizard of Speed and Time is the fact that the avaricious fictional producer is played by the film's real producer, Richard Kaye. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Two young men hit the road to Hollywood, CA to look for money, fame, and the wild life in this youthful comedy. Tucker "Downer" Downs tires of his boring job as a clerk in a women's fashion outlet and heads West. He also hopes that he will find his father, who disappeared 24 years before. In spite of some interesting names attached to this low-budget, embarrassing horror film (Rafael Buñuel, son of acclaimed Luis Buñuel is the co-writer and co-producer), the result is anemic. At the core of the story, seven athletes in training for the Olympics at the Falcon Academy of Athletics in Massachusetts are violently slain by a killer with a wicked javelin toss. Most of the women in the film are portrayed as lesbians (apparently a straight woman can do no more than wield a wicked crochet hook), or their gender is indeterminate because of the drugs they imbibe -- a side issue in the film. Clichéd, predictable, and lacking in suspense, Fatal Games was never released theatrically. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
