This Norwegian drama tells the story of Maria, a 40-year-old single, twice-divorced mother of three. She's a surgeon by day, a mother by night, and has more than enough to keep her busy, but even still, she is convinced that she could use a man in her life. She begins dating but finds that the process is no simpler than it was the first time around. She first meets Fredrik, the head doctor at her hospital, and instantly it seems that he's perfect: wealthy, responsible, 52 years old, and the owner of a fine vineyard in France. Things go swimmingly with him until Maria meets Jonas, a 25-year-old ambulance driver with a fun spontaneous streak that Maria's been missing. With her head pulling her toward Fredrik, her heart pulling her toward Jonas, and an ex-husband demanding full custody of her children, Maria begins to wonder if she'd be better off without any of her men. ~ Cammila Collar, Rovi

Based on a short story by noted Norwegian writer Oystein Lonn, Thranes Metode/Thrane's Method concerns the slowly developing attraction between two people living in the same apartment building. Thrane (Bjorn Sundquist) has money but no job, and has spent much of his life drifting from one place to another. He's infatuated with his upstairs neighbor, a jazz fan named Molly (Petronella Barker), despite the fact that she's married. However, her husband is frequently gone, and, with time, Molly finds herself drawn to Thrane, as well. Thranes Metode/Thrane's Method boasts a soundtrack of classic Charles Mingus sides (thanks to Molly's admirable taste in music) and received its American premier at the 1999 New Directors/New Films showcase in New York; it was also screened at the 1999 Berlin Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Nina (Silvia Myhre) goes off to the countryside with her parents on a brief vacation where she encounters a boy hiding up in a tree (Prebar Skjoensberg). The two soon become best friends, sharing an opposite problem: Nina's parents are too overprotective and the little boy's parents are a little negligent (they do not really know where is he most of the time). So Nina and the little boy run off together for awhile, earnestly discussing topics that deal with life from a seven-year-old's perspective. Maybe both sets of parents will soon be in for a bit of behavior modification, as their children unknowingly or not, start to have an effect on their elders. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
