Michael Di Jiacomo made his directorial debut with this allegory that opens with a 12-minute black-and-white prologue about three French filmmakers who encounter the tuba-playing Tollkeeper (Mickey Rooney) on a silent stretch between two ghost towns in the Utah desert. In NYC, an armed thief (John Turturro) holds up despairing cabdriver Henry (Tim Roth), who tells him to go ahead and pull the trigger. With the thief gone, Henry's next passengers are the three Frenchmen seen earlier, and he takes them into New England where he's so spellbound by the beautiful Fatima (Mili Avital) that he takes a job with her irritating mother in order to maintain his pursuit of Fatima. Ralph Fiennes' directorial debut, Coriolanus, scripted by John Logan, updates one of Shakespeare's more difficult plays without sacrificing the Bard's original dialogue. Set in modern times, the movie stars Fiennes as the title character, a fierce General able to fight Rome's most dreaded enemies as well as quell civil unrest from a lack of food. When politicians convince Coriolanus to become a political leader, his natural fierceness and lack of political instincts lead to him being disgraced by other politicians and eventually forced to leave Rome after being branded a traitor. He then joins with his former enemies to invade Rome, and the only person who may be able to talk him out of this revenge plan is his mother (Vanessa Redgrave). The film, which features a portion of the play's dialogue transferred into the mouths of talking-heads on television news shows, played at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

In 1976 a group of English villagers led by cop Carl (Nick Brimble) journey to a remote house where they discover a traumatized man and the corpse of his wife. Twenty-three years later, the remote house is home to Martin (Sean Pertwee), a burned-out novelist, and his American wife Ellen (Amanda Plummer), who have settled there following the freak death of their young son. Faster than you can say "Heeere's Johnny!" weird things start to happen: Ellen becomes convinced that she's going to die, while Martin's behavior is increasingly erratic and combative. Ellen decides to solve the mystery of her lodgings, which locals insist is located on a primeval bog with a somewhat unpalatable history.
