Hart Perry and Dana Perry are a couple with a background in documentary filmmaking (Hart is a cinematographer, Dana a producer and editor), and when they had a son, like many parents they spent a great deal of time recording their child's growth on film and videotape, albeit with higher-end equipment. But their son, Evan Perry, was different from most of his peers; Evan struggled with severe mood swings and emotional instability, and the couple struggled to help their child come to grips with an illness they did not fully understand (he was eventually diagnosed with bipolar disorder). Their efforts to help Evan came to a tragic conclusion when the boy committed suicide, jumping from the window of a skyscraper after leaving a note. Evan was only fifteen years old when he died. As Hart and Dana tried to come to terms with Evan's suicide, they decided to make a film in an effort to gain closure, and Dana began interviewing Evan's doctors, teachers, friends and family members as well as sorting through the hours of footage she had collected of her son. Boy Interrupted is the result, a powerful portrait of a family wrestling with loss and their unsuccessful battle to save their son. Boy Interrupted received its world premiere at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Jigsaw, the diabolical criminal who captured the imagination of horror fans in the 2004 hit Saw, returns in this equally bloody sequel. Eric Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg) is a police detective who, after discovering the aftermath of a particularly gruesome murder, is convinced that Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) is up to his ugly tricks again. Matthews' hunch turns out to be correct, but the master criminal proves to be disconcertingly easy to capture. As it happens, Jigsaw is eager to be put behind bars in order to throw the authorities off his trail as he once again punishes people who in his eyes have transgressed the boundaries of acceptable moral behavior. But instead of trapping two people in a filthy dungeon where they must engage in a terrible contest in order to win their freedom, eight people have been locked away by Jigsaw, and they must torture their bodies and minds to achieve the terrible justice Jigsaw seeks. Saw II was written by Leigh Whannell, who also scripted the first film. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Diana Ross hosts this four-hour TV special tracing the rise of Berry Gordy's Detroit-based Motown record label during the '60s. Clips were compiled from a variety of sources, including such TV shows as Teen Town, Where the Action Is and It's What's Happening Baby. The history covers the label's leading acts (Temptations, Supremes, Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Martha and the Vandellas, Mary Wells, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye) and explores the talents who created the Motown style -- songwriters Holland-Dozier-Holland and Norman Whitfield, choreographer Cholly Atkins, finishing-school director Maxine Powell, arranger Maurice King, and the rhythm section (pianist Earl van Dyke, drummer Ben Benjamin, and bassist James Jamerson). With background on Gordy, the story moves forward into Motown's film/TV production, the solo career of Diana Ross, the Commodores, Teena Marie, Rick James, and many others. Interviews include Aretha Franklin, Little Richard, Branford Marsalis, Clive Davis, Jesse Jackson, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, George Schlatter, Julian Bond, Diahann Carroll, RuPaul, and Rod Stewart. The special premiered as a two-parter (February 15th and 19th, 1998) on ABC. ~ Bhob Stewart, Rovi
