Emily Procter Movies
Emily Procter made her way into the stormy world of acting by forecasting the weather. While a Journalism and Dance major at East Carolina University, she landed a job as a weather anchor for a local CBS affiliate. One thing led to another, and soon she was headed west, travelling the well-travelled route to Los Angeles. Luck greeted Procter shortly after her arrival, when she began landing spots on television sitcoms and dramas. After appearing on such shows as Lois and Clark and Friends, Procter made her film debut with a small role in Leaving Las Vegas in 1995. Work in a number of small films followed, as did parts in Jerry Maguire (1997), the HBO movie Breast Men (1997), and such television movies as The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion! (also 1997). 1999 proved a busy year for the actress, as she had supporting roles in both Guinevere and the Scottish film The Big Tease. She also starred in Body Shots, playing a member of a group of friends looking for love and/or sex in pre-millennial Los Angeles.2002 brought what could effectively be called a "big break" as Procter landed a leading role on the CSI spin-off CSI: Miami. The show proved just as successful as its predecessor and Procter found herself on one of the most watched shows on television, sticking around for season upon season as its popularity seemed to only grow with each passing year. ~ Rebecca Flint Marx, All Movie Guide

The opening episode of CSI: Miami's third season represents the final series appearance of Rory Cochrane as Tim Speedle, streetwise member of the Florida-based CSI unit headed by the mercurial Horatio Caine (David Caruso). Speedle is killed during the investigation of a combination kidnapping and jewel theft, though it would not be until the following episode that the viewers would know which of the team members lost his (or her) life. Fortunately, the remainder of the unit -- including detectives Yelina Salas (Sofia Milos), Calleigh Duquesne (Elizabeth Procter), and Eric Delko (Adam Rodriguez) -- are alive and well, still solving crimes by combing through the most microscopic of forensic evidence. Also on hand in an increasingly recurring role is Rex Linn as Detective Frank Tripp, while Jonathan Togo as Ryan Wolfe makes the transition from recurring to regular. This season, the unit's cases include a murderer who acts as his own lawyer (and is damn good at it!), an e-mail "flash message" that leads to a death on a golf course, a baseball player accused of murder whose defense team members may be accessories after the fact, a gang-related killing that is sparked by the proverbial woman scorned, a search for a counterfeiting ring that is complicated by a sudden and enormous influx of tourists, and a fire in the Everglades which might or might not have been set as a literal smokescreen for a serial killer. ~ All Movie Guide

Although Horatio Caine (David Caruso) is still in charge of a super-efficient team of forensic criminologists during season two of CSI: Miami, one of those team members, former CSI head Megan Donner, is conspicuous by her absence -- as indeed she had been since halfway through season one. According to the plotline, Megan had quit the unit because she could not shake her memories of her husband's violent death. According to Hollywood rumor, however, the actress who played Megan, Kim Delaney, was unable to establish a rapport with series star David Caruso. Whatever the case, the unit has a new member this year, Detective Yelina Salas (Sofia Milos). Also added to the cast is the CSI's new DNA tech, Valera (Boti Ann Bliss). Throughout the season, the taciturn Caine will be drawn emotionally to Salas. This however, does not compromise either team member's ability to solve crimes by piecing together the tiniest bits of forensic evidence. CSI's assignments this year include the investigation of a model's death by deliberate vehicular homicide; the probe of a murder by spear gun; a closer examination of the death of a man who was supposedly killed in a hurricane (he wasn't); and Caine's ongoing campaign to locate the murderer of his brother. One of the final episodes of season two, "MIA/NYC -- NonStop," represents a crossover between CSI: Miami and its sister series, CSI: NY, allowing David Caruso to compare notes with his CSI: NY counterpart, Gary Sinise. ~ All Movie Guide

Mercurial ex-homicide cop Horatio Caine (David Caruso) heads a crack group of Florida-based forensic criminologists in season one of CSI: Miami. Adding to Horatio's mood swings is the return to the CSI unit of Megan Donner (Kim Delaney), former head of the unit, who has a habit of challenging every move that her successor makes (Megan would exit the series after ten episodes, claiming that working around dead people made it difficult to overcome the demise of her husband). Caine gets along better (but not much) with the other members of the team: ballistics expert Calleigh Duquesne (Emily Procter), streetwise Tim Speedle (Rory Cochrane), and underwater-recovery specialist Eric Delko (Adam Rodriguez). Then there's coroner Alexx Woods (Khandi Alexander), who makes no secret of the fact that she considers every member of the CSI -- and probably everybody else in Miami -- her intellectual inferior. The team's first assignment finds them trying to figure out why the body of a presumed victim of a plane crash in the Everglades showed up five miles from the crash site. In later episodes, Caine leads an investigation of an alleged serial bomber; the team ponders a possible connection between a wealthy family and a burned, befouled corpse (thereby opening up a very old wound for the sensitive Caine); three CSIers look for motives in the death of a male exotic dancer; Caine and Speedle seek out the reason that the naked body of a murdered hooker was meticulously cleaned with cardmom soap; and in an Emmy-winning episode, a case against the husband of a prominent politician leads to a desperate search for a thrill killer. ~ All Movie Guide

This episode served as the pilot for the spin-off series CSI: Miami, with David Caruso making his first appearance as Horatio Caine, Miami counterpart to CSI's Gil Grissom (William L. Petersen). It all begins when Las Vegas' former chief of detectives is killed execution-style after a party at his home. In addition, the dead man's young new wife and their seven-year-old daughter are missing. Ultimately the girl is spotted near Miami, obliging the Vegas CSI team to work hand in glove with Horatio Caine and his colleagues. Other soon-to-be regulars of CSI: Miami introduced herein are Emily Procter as Calleigh Duqesne, Adam Rodriguez as Eric Delko, Khandi Alexander as Alexx Woods, and Rory Cochrane as Tim Speedle. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Made for television, Submerged is the true story of the U.S.S Squalus, a submarine which was immobilized some 230 feet below the Portsmouth Naval Yard in 1939. Taking into account the 59 crew members on board, a daring and dangerous plan was hatched to expedite a rescue, using a diving bell for that purpose. Inasmuch as this constituted the first rescue of a living crew from an American submarine (and, incidentally, the first time that such an event was covered live on television), there is little doubt as to the outcome, though enough suspense is engendered by the central situation that one wonders why it was deemed necessary to include a sappy romantic subplot. Sam Neill heads the cast as "Swede" Momsen, the grizzled old Naval officer who stage-managed the rescue. Based on Peter Maas' book The Terrible Hours, Submerged originally aired May 20, 2001 on NBC. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Already displeased that Ross (David Schwimmer) is attached to Julie (Lauren Tom), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) isn't prepared for the news that Monica (Courteney Cox) is becoming friends with Julie. In other developments, Joey (Matt LeBlanc) and a rival in love (Joel Beeson) are hired as department-story models, Joey as the Bijan Cologne Man and the other fellow as The Hombre Guy. And apropos the episode's title, Carol's (Jane Sibbett) breastfeeding of baby Ben -- to say nothing of her cache of bottled breast milk -- causes discomfort amongst the boys. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Writer Audrey Wells (The Truth About Cats and Dogs) makes her directing debut in Guinevere, which won the screenwriting award at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival, where it made its world premiere. The film concerns Harper Sloane, a twenty-something upper class pre-law student who falls for Connie, a bohemian photographer 30 years her senior. Shy, waifish, and camera shy, Harper feels her life is mapped out for her, coming from a long line of successful, Harvard-educated lawyers living in San Francisco. At her older sister's wedding, Harper meets Connie, who photographs her privately. When he shows her the photos, Harper (whom Connie refers to only as Guinevere) is intrigued, and a passionate romance and sexual attraction begins. Harper moves in with Connie to become his student, against her mother's wishes. Harper also learns that she isn't Connie's first Guinevere; in fact, there have been a half-dozen others, all of whom have remained friends. As the relationship takes its ups and downs, Harper comes out of her shell to become a stronger woman, more in control of her life and destiny than she would have ever dreamed possible. As Connie slowly dies from poverty and alcoholism, all of his Guineveres, including Harper, come together to remember (and drink to) his work and his life. ~ Arthur Borman, All Movie Guide

This docudrama recaps the history of silicone breast implants, beginning in 1962 when idealistic Houston medical resident Kevin Saunders (David Schwimmer) gets an idea after seeing how women pad their bras. After he shares his notion with cosmetic pro Dr. William Larson (Chris Cooper), the two create a prosthetic breast from Dow-Corning's silicone gel. Approaching women on the street fails to bring volunteers, but a classified newspaper ad does the trick. As breast sizes increase, so do the doctors' bank accounts. However, physical problems emerge, followed by lawsuits, and the high life soon turns sour and grim. Filmed in LA, and Texas (Galveston, Houston), this TV movie premiered December 13, 1997 on HBO. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide

Combining drama, comedy, and romance, Jerry Maguire was a critical and commercial success built on an original script by writer/director Cameron Crowe and an Oscar-nominated performance by Tom Cruise. Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise) is an agent with a major sports management firm. He's enthusiastic, successful, a great negotiator and people like him. But it begins to dawn on Jerry that there's something wrong with what he's doing, and not long after a troubling encounter with the son of an injured athlete he represents, Jerry has a serious crisis of conscience. In the midst of a sleepless night, Jerry writes a memo calling on himself and his colleagues to think more about the long-term welfare of the clients they represent and less about immediate profits. While everyone around him applauds the sentiment, Jerry's superiors think his ideas are bad for business; Jerry is fired, and, rather than standing in solidarity with him, his "friends" in the firm scramble like sharks to claim Jerry's clients. At the end of his last day, the only people willing to join Jerry as he strikes out on his own are staff accountant Dorothy (Renee Zellweger), a single mother secretly in love with him, and Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.), a football player whose pride and arrogance have gotten in the way of his reaching his potential. Jerry Maguire earned an Academy Award for Cuba Gooding Jr.'s performance as Tidwell and provided a breakthrough role for Renee Zellweger; it also made "Show me the money!" an unavoidable catchphrase for several months. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
