A formerly remote house and shed used for bloody satanic rituals involving children is now in the middle of a burgeoning Australian suburb. The long-abandoned house is bought by Lynn (Belinda McClory), an unsuspecting American, who moves into it with her teenaged son Danny (Joshua Leonard) and her two small children. It's not long before Danny becomes aware that something is watching them from the woods; and soon after tree roots take on lives of their own and entangle the family members, who, upon escaping, think the attacks are normal for the local plant life. Actor-turned-director Murray Fahey set this haunted house horror flick in the suburbs of Australia. The film opens with brash American Lynn Graham (Belinda McClory) moving into her new suburban dream home with her three kids, including teenaged Danny (Joshua Leonard). Unfortunately, the house -- which has been abandoned for the past 30 years -- has long been rumored to be haunted after the murder of a pair of children. Soon friends and associates are being dragged to their own deaths by killer sentient weeds that emerge from under the house. The younger two children become obsessed, and the neighbor's cute daughter Bronwyn (Lauren Hewett) goes from being Danny's potential first love to being his killer. In the Australian vernacular, the word "dag" refers to the filth-covered hindquarters of a sheep; it is also used, with affection, to describe vulgar, unsophisticated people, usually of the working class. This low-brow comedy targets just such people and their colorful, scruffy lives. Cheryl, who thinks K-Mart is the most wonderful place on earth, is engaged to stoner Daryl until she decides that she deserves someone better. Kevin dreams of making the Guinness Book of World Records by convincing his buddy Trevor to rob his video store every night. Friends gather for a dinner party and engage in fascinating conversations that take a much darker turn when the true nature of their interrelations come to light in this Australian comedy-drama. It is Sylvia and her frustrated lover Morris who give the party. She, the editor of an advice column in a feminist magazine, and he are going through a rocky time as she hasn't allowed him to have sex with her since her abortion. The others are Tracy, a fashion model, John, a manipulative closet homosexual, free-spirited fashion designer Viv, Tom, her bisexual lover, and Dan, an aloof loner. As far as secret involvements go, Tracy is having an affair with Morris. John has had an affair with Tom. Tracy claims Dan once beat her, but Dan denies it. The evening progresses and the guests drink much wine and smoke plenty of dope. Murray Fahey's horror thriller Voyage Into Fear concerns a woman named Madaline who is haunted with guilt about the death of her brother when they were both children. She starts to have disturbing dreams about the brother. In order to get past these feelings she goes back to her hometown and does some digging around the crash scene. She becomes worried that her brother is trying to return and kill her. In this children's drama, Steven Wilson (Andrew Shephard) has been sent from his country home to stay with his grandmother Pearl (Pat Evison) in Melbourne. She earns her keep working in the boxoffice of a theater, and Steven spends most of his time with her at the theater. The premise in this actioner (set in the 1990s, which probably seemed futuristic at this time) is that the world's economy has hit the skids and in Australia, street punks are looting cars for their spare parts. In order to control the mobs of roaming gangs, the Aussie government rounds them up and stashes them in prison camps. When Crabs (Ned Manning) takes his girlfriend Carmen (Natalie McCurry) out to a drive-in movie on a date he does not realize he has just pulled into one of these prisons. In no time at all his tires have been stolen and he sees that he's been trapped. The rest of the action (spliced with humor) involves Crabs fending for himself and trying to finds a way out. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
