A 17-year-old misfit afflicted by a rare phobia finds her romance with a handsome teen setting off a tragic sequence of events in the feature screenwriting/directorial debut of teenage filmmaker Anne-Sophie Dutoit. Cassandra (Dutoit) suffers from a paralyzing disorder that makes her intensely afraid of physical contact. Unable to form any kind of meaningful human connection as a result of her irrational fear, Cassandra drifts from town to town with her damaged aunt Maggie May (Ely Pouget), whose endless quest for another man and another bottle has gotten the pair into some precarious situations in the past. Upon arriving in Malibu, CA, Cassandra begins to develop feelings for sympathetic teen Lucas (Brook Vincent Kelly). Unlike the other kids, Lucas can see past Cassandra's illness to recognize the true beauty that dwells within. But Lucas' father is dying, and in order to keep their family from going bankrupt his overbearing mother, Nancy (Kim Morgan Greene), is struggling to marry her son off to local girl Pam (Marika Devan), the scion of immensely wealthy parents. Nancy will do everything in her power to keep Lucas and Cassandra apart, eventually recruiting local detective Peter (Nick James) to dig into Cassandra and her aunt's questionable past. Eventually, as a result of the detective's findings, Cassandra is placed in a mental health facility. But Cassandra never stops dreaming of the day Lucas will come and save her, and after seven long years of writing letters that remain unsent, she is released back into society to solve the mystery that has haunted her for nearly a decade. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

FBI agent-turned-reluctant beauty queen Gracie Hart (played by Sandra Bullock) is taking on both bad guys and high glamour again in this sequel to the comedy smash Miss Congeniality. Three loosely interrelated stories of dysfunctional relationships are played for edgy laughs in this dark comedy drama from writer and director Don Roos. An unexpected assignation between stepsiblings Mamie and Charley results in Mamie becoming pregnant, with the child being put up for adoption shortly after birth. Twenty years later, Mamie (Lisa Kudrow) is approached by Nicky (Jesse Bradford), an aspiring filmmaker with an abrasive personality who claims to know where her long-lost son is living. However, there's a catch -- Nicky wants to shoot the reunion for the student film he's working on, and won't tell her about her child unless she agrees, though her lover, Javier (Bobby Cannavale), attempts to work out a compromise. Meanwhile, Charley (Steve Coogan), now out of the closet, has a longstanding relationship with Gil (David Sutcliffe), and the couple are involved in a legal battle over whether or not Gil's donated sperm produced a baby who has been adopted by a lesbian couple they know (Laura Dern and Sarah Clarke). And finally, Jude (Maggie Gyllenhaal) is a bohemian malcontent who becomes involved with Otis (Jason Ritter), a sexually ambiguous rock musician. Otis has a difficult relationship with his father, Frank (Tom Arnold), but when Jude meets Frank, she likes him fine -- in fact, she soon falls in love with him and leaves Otis for his dad. It's a toss-up as to who is more disgusted by the news that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) has slept with Derek (Patrick Dempsey): Meredith's roomies Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and George (T.R. Knight), or the interns' granite-faced supervisor Bailey (Chandra Wilson). Back at Seattle Grace, Derek picks George to assist him during an extremely delicate brain operation, but George may lose the opportunity if he speaks up about the drinking problem of veteran anestheseologist Dr. Taylor. Elsewhere, Izzie performs emergency surgery on a disgruntled gent who has swallowed his girlfriend's car keys; Alex (Justin Chambers) meets a fellow former wrestler named Owens (Russell Hornsby), who has developed a morbid fascination with self-mutilation; and several of the interns become involved in the plight of a teenager who is suffering the aftereffects of a botched gastric bypass operation. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In the '70s, Roy Munsen (Woody Harrelson) was a bowling phenomenon. He was none too sharp about picking friends, though, and the champion he had to beat, "Big Ern," takes him under his supposedly friendly wing. Big Ern (Bill Murray) shows him the high-living lifestyle, and induces him to go on the road with him, hustling small-town bowlers. A couple of the men he bilks take exception to the scam, and show their displeasure with Roy by mangling his hand. Twenty years later, Roy (who now has a hook in place of his hand), earns his living as a salesman. On a visit to a bowling alley, he cannot help but notice the incredible talents of an Amish boy, Ishmael (Randy Quaid). Bowling is not part of the Amish lifestyle, but Ishmael occasionally sneaks into the bowling alley and plays a frame or two. Roy takes Ishmael under his wing, and together they begin a quest for bowling success. This comedy is directed by Peter and Robert Farrelly, who also directed Dumb and Dumber. Like those comedies, it contains a lot of gross-out jokes and bathroom humor. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale of a man whose scientific meddling has unexpected results gets a cross-gender update in this comedy. Richard Jacks (Tim Daly) is a research scientist trying to work his way up the ladder at a major perfume company when he inherits the notebooks of his great-grandfather, Dr. Henry Jekyll. Fascinated by Jekyll's ideas about the duality of man, Jacks starts performing experiments to refine his potion that would isolate man's good and evil natures. However, Richard's version has a very different result than the old Jekyll formula, instead of turning him into a snarling beast, the drug transforms him into Helen Hyde (Sean Young), a beautiful and powerfully sexy woman with a slight case of nymphomania. Jacks figures that a good looking woman willing to sleep with nearly anyone should have no trouble rising to a position of power within the company, so his alter-ego Helen may be his ticket to a room at the top. But this plan may require a bit of explaining to Jacks' girlfriend, Sarah (Lysette Anthony). The supporting cast includes Polly Bergen, Jeremy Piven, and Harvey Fierstein, who is so awestruck by Helen Hyde's allure that he's rendered heterosexual by the experience. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Careful, parents: this one's Immortal Combat, not Mortal Kombat. And it's R-rated, too. Even so, the young fans of wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper will probably find some way to get this on their TV screen. Together with the equally musclebound Sonny Chiba, Piper takes on a battalion of seemingly indestructible martial-arts bad guys. The lovely and talented Meg Foster supplies acting relief (well that's not really fair; Piper and Chiba are very good at what they do). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

It gradually and painfully becomes clear to the detective that Allegra's "murder" may not have been a murder after all.
